Great Desk, Shipping not so great.

Got this desk for my son, he had out-grown his old desk. Easy to put together, took about 2 hours. It helped to sort out all pieces before the build. My son has his desktop computer on it and plenty of room for him to do his homework on it. The desk surface space is huge. Only complaint about it was the shipping. When I received it I noticed that it had been roughly handled and that one of the corners was smashed. Small damage to corner of desk top but it is in the back and not noticeable.

This desk was a great buy! I'm a student and have an apartment in Manhattan, so space is quite limited. This desk is the perfect size! Although it's a little on the larger size for workstations, it accommodates everything I need quite well. The desk itself is also quite sturdy and the finish is quite elegant. My only complaint would be the fact that the delivery service Walmart uses is not that great...many corners of my desk have noticeable chips in them. Otherwise, a must buy!

I am extremely happy with the product. I will admit that some of the reviews I read were negative but I am satisfied. The directions are a bit a challenge. Even though its a bit time consuming you should lay everything out and make sure that you have the right pieces before you start glueing...I didn't and that was my bad for being in a hurry so I had to redo a few pieces. End result was exactly what I was looking for.

We ordered the desk to match an existing desk and although they don't match exactly, we are extremely satisfied with the desk. It went together easily and turned out even better than we'd hoped.

The desk is exactly as pictured. Please note that it is very heavy and does require better-than-average assembly skills. I have assembled large pieces of furniture (larger than this desk), and I would estimate that it took about four hours to complete. I looked at many desks and do not want to spend more than $350. This was the best desk for the money. The Computer rollout tray is substantive and sturdy, however, I need to prop up the desk with blocks, even after mounting the tray higher than designed. With the average quality executive office chair, there simply is not enough room under the tray to comfortably sit. Check your packaging well on the corners. If any of the corners are compressed, insist that you open and inspect for damage. Though the desk is well packed in a flat box, the weight of it causes the freight handlers to drop it on end. This crushed the compressed board. Luckily for me, the corner of the desktop is against the wall. A little touching up with putty and stain, and it was good enough. The surface of the desk appears that it will be relatively scratch resistant and does not appear like a paper covered board!

Nice Desk

I like the looks of this desk and its layout (left-side pedestal and long keyboard tray) a lot. It is constructed out of heavy fiberboard with what appears to be a semigloss, wood-grained, vinyl veneer (even though the description says that it has a "lacquered finish"). As others have indicated, it is very sturdy. The actual size of the desk is roughly 56 3/4" long, 25 3/4" deep, and 29" high, with a 35" keyboard tray.   I didn't find it significantly more difficult to assemble than other prefabbed furniture I've put together. However, it does take more time than you might expect, especially if you are trying to be careful not to make mistakes. In all, it took me at least 5 hours. As suggested by others, I did presort and label the parts before starting, which seemed to help. There were a couple of places where the instructions were a bit ambiguous, but the only real difficulty I had was getting the file hanger rods to fit into the hole in the metal bracket that attaches it to the back of the file drawer. Otherwise, everything else went together without a hitch.   The bad news was that the materials were poorly packaged (even though the description brags about how good the packaging is). The desktop was badly damaged, and there was some damage to the keyboard. The good news was that when I called the phone number on the instruction manual, I was instantly connected to a very nice lady (no automated switchboard runaround), who had the replacement parts shipped out to me that same day, and they arrived several days later. The whole experience was a breath of fresh air compared to the the kind of customer service hassles that seem to be the norm nowadays.

We struggled a little to put the desk together because the the screws and bolts were not separated like other item's that i've purchased before. It took us a lot longer than expect to put together. but once we got it together it looks very nice. the style and the color. Although it was slightly damaged from the shipping but it doesn't show since the damage part is toward the back. This was purchased for my 10 yr old hopefully it will grow with him. It's slightly larger than a student desk which i like. I think I made a good choice with this product.

WAY TO HARD TO PUT TOGETHER

Well it says I think approximately two hours to assemble well I don't see why it took me seven hours then. I know who ever is reading this are saying well he just don't know how to put things together like I do. Well buddy let me tell you that's the same thing I thought when I read this in another review. The parts have no numbers or letters what so ever. So you have to try and match the part to the picture in the book. Man I almost gave up after about four hours this is the most frustrating thing I have ever had to work with. Some of the parts were damaged too but, none of them showed up cause must of the damages were on the back of the parts. And all this gluing of the dowels man I see what the two bottles of glue is for now. This is a beautiful desk when you do get it done. It feels very solid. But let me tell you if you don't have a lot and I mean a lot of time and patience don't get this desk.

Sturdy, but requires MUCH work

I read the reviews here before I purchased this computer and decided that, since I am anything but new at putting together furniture, that I could deal with something that is difficult to put together if the end result is a large, sturdy desk. I think I've changed my mind. Please note: Prior to this, I have put together numerous items ranging from laminate entertainment centers to tiny CD shelves. Many of those had wrong directions or mislabeled parts and some had holes that didn't line up correctly. This desk, however, takes the cake. I still do not have it put together after 5-6 total hours of working on it, spread out over two days. First, if you decide to buy this desk, before you do anything else take some Ziploc bags and sort the hardware that comes with it. I did do this, but I neglected to do the next part: label the bags! (Yes, you're doing the work they should have done.) The hardware has pieces numbered EXTREMELY similarly, such as screws #26020 and #26040. They are not even drawn to scale, or even close to scale, in the list of parts. One of the screws was listed to have only 3 included when you need 4; I did have 4 included at least. Also, the pieces of wood are not labeled, and it took a little bit of time to simply sort out those from the drawings. On the file drawer, apparently I did not get the wooden dowel quite far enough into the end of the drawer side (yes, I had the right sized dowel), and so it pushed through the front of the file drawer, breaking the laminate covering, which will show whenever the desk is finished. I do think it will be a sturdy desk once it's put together, and the dimensions on the product page are listed oddly. It is 29.0" tall, 27.75" deep, and 59.25" long, a very good-sized desk with a very long keyboard tray. However, right now, after working this long to put it together and without a finished product, it's eventual sturdiness just means that I have to move extremely heavy pieces multiple times as I fix the mistakes that are inevitable when you have almost nonexistent directions.

The directions are confusing. We have spent about 12 hours putting the dest together...the directiosn say it should take about 2 hours. The pieces that make up the left side with the drawers do not fit together properly causing the desk to be unsteady. Once together when moved the desk broke into 2 pieces. It does appear easy to order replacement parts, however I'm leary to believe the desk is going to steady even once we have new pieces.
