Best flavor. Best texture of yeast risen breads. Makes an exceptional base for variations, including flavorings and raisin-walnut- cinnamon loaves! I am diabetic - my bread does not spike blood sugar! Makes excellent refrigerator sourdough starter, too.
I've baked only a few baguettes, half bread and half Bronze Chief and they were wonderful, created light and airy loaves. This time I caught my dough at optimum rise and it was just perfect. I've fed Ethel, my sour dough starter and she liked it very much as well. Turned one loaf into croutons and like the bread, great air pockets made for super crunchy, yet not jaw breaking! Very fresh and fragrant flour, best of all; not too heavy. My pizza crusts turned out very flavorful as did the breads I bake. I always add 1/4 cup w/w flour to my Sour Dough French bread for healthier, more robust bread. Consistently great results!!
I'm in love with this whole wheat flour! I use it in all of my baking healthy recipes! Especially in muffins! The texture is very light and the taste is not as heavy as the other brands like KAF, Gold. The whole wheat taste doesn't over power my baking recipe. I love love this flour super high quality!
I used to buy this flour once a year when traveling through Montana. I'm so glad Walmart carries it so I can buy it anytime of the year.
I was so happy when I first bought this flour at Walmart. After a while I did not see it on their shelves at our local Walmart. I learned I could order it online and it would be delivered to my home free of charge. That was amazing. It is the best tasting whole wheat flour I have ever used. I bake whole wheat bread regularly. I like the idea that Montana Farms is so careful with their milling and it is a non GMO product. I will be ordering it regularly. Walmart I wish you would stock your shelves with this excellent flour.
I love this flour! So fine and soft. Perfect for most of my breads, baking, gravy, cookies, etc. Here is a pic of my whole wheat pumpkin bread.
The whole wheat was not my first choice, but I was desperate. I typically purchase Wheat Montana Prairie Gold flour, but it was unavailable. There seems to be a different (maybe slightly coarser?) grind than the usual Gold Medal type flours have. Once I made something with this wheat flour, I was hooked! It has a wonderful nutty flavor, and the price cannot be beat.
This is a great whole wheat flour. I had been purchasing it directly from Wheat Montana, but they quit selling to individuals, so I was glad to see that WalMart was carrying the product. I did not pay $96.79 for a 5 lb. bag, but only something like 3.96, so the price in this review that was sent to me is incorrect. I hope that you continue to carry Wheat Montana Flour and wish that you would add their pastry flour to your selections. I give this an excellent rating compared to whole wheat flours you purchase in the grocery stores. Thanks for carrying it.
Good flour but will not buy again because of the package design. Wide mouth "resealable" bag that 1) doesn't reseal, 2) is too shallow to dip even a half-cup measure into, and 3) opening is wider than any canister is, so impossible to get flour out of with spilling. Love the idea of supporting Dakota wheat farmers, but a plain old paper bag works a whole lot better.
