This shreds leaves into very small pieces ideal for mulch. To get the leaves this size with my mower, I have to pile them on the driveway and make several passes. I prefer mulching with the Worx machine over the mower because I don't have to cart the leaves around as much and the mulched material is more consistent in size. I use two small rakes, one under each arm, to lift the leaves from the pile into the machine so that I don't have to bend down repeatedly and don't breathe in much debris. Small twigs can clog up the maching, but it's easy to stop and unclog.
I envisioned a product and this is it at the right price point. I bought a 20 gal garbage can that just fits under this stand. And a pair of leaf hands from the online"jungle". Viola a huge time and space saver. It is loud. And dusty so i fashioned a dust skirt. Got huge roll of next bigger size premium shredder line. Wear glasses and a dust mask and good to go!
I hate it when leaves cover my yard and driveway every fall. Why can't they just rot on the trees and fall to the ground as compost? I hate to have to rake them up and burn them because burning is illegal in our county (what are we supposed to do, eat them?), and to make it worse, my son is a fireman so I get it from both sides. I hate the fact that the mower doesn't do a better job of mulching them. It just blows them all over where I just cleaned them up. I hate to use a leaf blower because all it does other than give me an arm ache, is to make bigger piles that cause me more trouble with my son and the county. I hate it because there are way too many to add to the compost pile and I'm back to burning and my son, and the county. You by now should get the picture. I hate dead leaves! Then along came this thing from WORX they call a leaf mulcher that looks a lot like a barbecue grill. You plug it in and IT eats the darn leaves and turns them into MULCH! I like mulch. Now I'm almost seventy-five years old and pushin hard on forty, and I don't need all this aggravation, and have discovered that hate makes you older much quicker. The WORX Leaf Mulcher is one great machine that makes life so much easier and leaf mulching almost a pleasure. The only thing I hate now is when the darn power goes out,or it rains and I can't mulch, and can't even burn the blasted things!
I have lots of trees and attempted to purchase this machine last year, however there were non available from 'any' source. Got one two weeks ago. Much faster than using the Worx Blower/Vac-Mulcher. It will mulch as fast as you can dump leaves in the hopper. The use of trimmer line over blade type tools makes this a safer machine for fingers but does not diminish its voracious appetite for leaves. I still use my Worx Blower/Vac for final cleanup. The trimmer line is simple to change and unless you throw a lot of small twigs and sticks, one set of 2 lines will hold up through more than one use. This machine is well built, sturdy, as with all Worx tools I have purchased, and breaks down and stores within itself, very compact. I highly recommend this mulcher over any other I have seen on the market. I also own a gas powered mulcher/chipper and prefer this tool for mulching.
I just did my yard clean up using 6- 55 gallon drum liners. In the past it has taken up to 20 bags to clean up all the leaves. This thing run great, the line is easy to change out and it is easy to take apart for storage. Wish I would have bought one sooner!
This unit did everything I needed. It shredded all the leaves into a couple of garbage bags of mulch. My only issue is it does kick up a lot of dust, but that is only a minor issue. I would recommend this unit to anyone who has a lot of leaves to deal with on a regular basis.
Used it a week ago to do the leaves that had been bagged since last fall. Pleased with the results, some were used around the berries the same day and others stored in the bags until we redo a flower bed. Liked the fact that the frame will hold the trash bags very well, pleased the the motor is in a sealed case.
Pros: This product quickly and easily turned my yard full of non-composting leaves into finely shredded mulch which should break down with ease. It is easy to assemble, light and mobile, and I swapped out leaf bags without trouble. It came with plenty of extra "blades" (plastic string, like a weed wacker). A great product, especially for the price. Cons: It would be nice to have something wider on the base of each "foot", as the poles acted like high heels, sinking easily into the ground, sometimes on one side more than the other, causing the machine to become lopsided. Neutral: I had issues with shredded leaves sticking in the barrel instead of falling through the bottom - this is less about the product, as those were the leaves that were wetter. It worked great for dry leaves, so it isn't a con, but if it worked better with wet leaves too it would have been a pro. It also gets a bit jammed up on sticks, and it can't break them up, but I didn't buy it for that purpose. From what I could find, machines either mulched sticks well or mulched leaves well, but none did both well (at least at this price point). If you want to mulch sticks and branches, this is not the machine for that.
The string line breaks immediately so I have tried using bigger line, but it breaks after a couple minutes and then shut it down and replace line again. I have no idea how this thing gets good reviews. This is very light duty so not of much use at all.
This product seems to have been used and returned. It was scuffed and dirty. And it was missing a (small, insignificant) piece that would have fit into a misshapen opening on the stand. Two of the four clamps would not close, and the plastic edge at those 2 clamps seemed also to be deformed, so that I could not secure the funnel to the motor housing. That's when I gave up and decided to return it.
