A great product

This product has worked exactly as described, and as hoped. Use only the type of batteries they recommend, and this unit will work great for you. My parents and I are very pleased with this in our home. The only thing I would like to see changed, is the fact that the wind sensor has to be connected by a wire to the temperature/humidity sensor. This can be somewhat limiting to where you mount the sensors. I would like to see the wind sensor capable of transmitting data by itself, even if this means the use of two extra batteries.

I have read several review of this unit but most the problems that I have read about have not surfaced with my unit. I read that the range of the unit is not as reported. I set up the unit at one end of my home and the speed/direction unit is about 20' up in the air, the other portion is under an eve of the house. The rain gauge is at the other complete end of the house. Both are picked up by the receiver and I can actually walk around inside and outside with the receiver and never loose signal. I have read that the unit only shows wind gusts. Not true, it shows wind speed and press a button, then it shows gusts. I heard that it didn't show inside temps. Again, not so, works great. I checked the hygrometer with a mercury sling psychrometer and was able to calculate that the the hygrometer was calibrated fairly well, I also checked the wind speed with a handheld anemometer and the temperature with a temperature probe. Everything checked out great, I am very happy. Only time will tell if the plastic parts will stand up to the Forida sun. All in all happy with the purchase, would recommend it and would do it again. Cheers!

Bought this for my dad for a birthday gift. most gifts he wont use bu this one he likes alot. He set it up as soon as he got it. He's a bit of a weather buff and he runs a farm. He need to know the rain and wether. The wireless part was what he liked most. no long cords for any thing to break.

Nice to know what weather is before going outside.

Unit was easy to set up and sensors all attached with a couple of screws each. Took less than 20 minutes to have the weather station fully operational. The wind and temp seem to be very accurate but haven't had any rain to verify the rain gauge.

Perfect Gift

The Weather center was a perfect gift for my husband. The rain gauge is wireless and can be installed in a different area than the Anometer and Thermometer. Based on reviews, the thermometer is installed under the eve on the NE corner of the house to avoid direct sun. The Anometer is on the TV antenna mast. We truly enjoy our Weather Center.

Not for the Weather Enthusiast

Unfortunately, this product does not live up to the Lacrosse Name even thought the "Weather Channel" has its name on it. I've had three units - one unit had half the LCD display working, and the other two had failed Outside Temperature sensors. Come to find out the outside Temperature Sensor is not rain proof. The sensor must MUST be under the eave of a house or else the Sensor will short out. The sensor shorted out twice and returned 3X to WalMart and gave up.

LaCrosse "Professional" Weather Station

I am a weather enthusiast and had owned a much cheaper weather center for a number of years. That one just had the external temperature/humidity gauge, and my appetite was whetted for something with more sensors when the old one finally died. This weather station has an outdoor sensor for temperature, humidity and pressure, as well as a wind sensor (speed and direction) and a rain gauge. The rain gauge worked once out of the box, and never worked again. I didn't want the hassle of packing this all up to return because in contrast to my old station that just had a sensor that you placed outside anywhere, setting up this system requires time, effort, space and the right circumstances. And a lot of time positioning, repositioning and screwing into posts. You have to have an appropriate place to mount the wind sensor - where it is unencumbered, but it also has to be close to the temperature gauge (they attach to each other by a wire). The temperature gauge has has to be shaded (under an awning) as it is not waterproof. Oh, and the wind sensor has to point east if I remember correctly. So really, your options would be limited if you don't have the right outdoor space. The wind sensor never seemed to work properly - it would be spinning away outside the window and there would be a 50mph wind advisory in effect, and it would say the wind speed was 5mph. I don't think I ever saw it read over 8mph, even in the wildest storm. The temperature gauge was always a few degrees different to the others - I have 2 other thermometers as well as 2 online gauges, all of which are always in sync. I did enjoy the pressure monitor - it was a good aid in predicting the weather. However, just be clear that this weather station gives you (its view) of the current weather conditions - it is not a weather forecaster (some are). The monitor for this station was sitting on the window sill above the kitchen sink and my 4 year old daughter knocked it into a basin of water the other day. She probably did me a favour, I'm looking at getting something much more useful now!

Very Poor

Unit only runs on batterys. Not all readouts worked. Very slow responce from La Crosse for warranty work. One week after I found the form to fill out. No 800 number to call. Puts you on hold for ever.

Unit fails longterm

I bought this unit about a year ago and the outdoor unit needs to be reset often. Another problem is the local store stopped selling them, so I cannot get replacement parts. I got this unit as a backup to my Peet Brothers station that is >10 years old. Compared to the Peet Brothers station, this one is severely deficient. This unit is much cheaper, but I guess you get what you pay for. I do like the wireless concept for ease of location, but if I get a wireless station again, it will probably be a Davis unit and not a LaCrosse.

Don't waste your money

This purchase ended up being a huge regret. I bought this for my parents as a christmas present a few years ago. It ended up being a huge pain in the neck, and not worth the money or hassle. The rain meter never did function correctly, so that was the first problem we encountered. Installation was also a pain, as the wind gauge is connected to the temperature and humidity sensor by a wire, instead of just having 3 wireless sensors. I know why they did it that way, because even more batteries would have been required for this over-engineered piece of junk. Another problem, is that this weather center eats up batteries like there's no tomorrow. And don't think you will get away from that problem by using rechargeable batteries, as they don't work in this system! It says so in the instruction manual. When it comes time to replace the batteries, all of them have to be changed at the same time, rather than just one sensor as needed. We just had to swap out the batteries again, and now the SET button no longer works, so we can not set the time or date, nor can we adjust the settings, such as MPH or Beaufort wind scale. What a piece of junk! In summary, this weather center looks great on paper. It claims all these wonderful features, but in all reality, they just don't work. Now we're stuck with an over-priced outdoor thermometer/hydrometer, because those are the only features that still work. Don't waste your money! Want to know the temperature and wind speed/direction outside? Put up a regular thermometer and a wind-vane!
