Personnel: Duke Levine (acoustic & electric guitars, lap steel, mandola, omnichord, omnichord drums); Kevin Barry (acoustic guitar); Sonny Barbato (accordion); Tom West (Fender Rhodes, Hammond B-3 organ); Paul Bryan (bass, dumbek); Jay Bellerose (drums, percussion); Lorne Entress (drums, percussion); Mike Rivard (tamboura); Mason Daring, Dave Shacter, John Jennings, Jon Carroll, Bob Dawson, Rusty Robertson. Morphine: Dana Colley (baritone saxophone); Mark Sandman (keyboards, two-string bass, slide tritar); Billy Conway (drums). Engineers: Chris Rival, Jim Siegel, Dave Shacer, Bob Dawson. Recorded at My Generation Studios, Somerville, the Outpost, Stoughton & Daring Studios, Marblehead, Massachusetts; Bias Studios, Springfield, Virginia. On this, his third album of instrumentals, Duke Levine works with the same core band heard on prior releases (pianist/organist Tom West, bassist Paul Bryan, and drummer Lorne Entress). Levine's also varied the proceedings with numerous guests--the members of Morphine are on board for Levine's own "Force Field" and a cover of Duane Eddy and Lee Hazelwood's "Stalkin'"; Mike Rivard's tamboura adds chiming echoes to the guitar lines on "Buckaroo"; and Sonny Barbato's accordion adds zest and flair to a pair of compositions. A tasteful and frequently sought-out session player, Duke Levine also knows how to make fine and engaging albums of his own.
