I would've given this laptop 5 stars because over all it is a great laptop. I will list my problems with the laptop first because there is not a lot. The case is plastic but I was expecting that for a laptop of this price range so it didn't really bother me. My biggest problem with the laptop is the screen is the screen has very limited optimal viewing angles and the speaker does not go as loud as I would like it too. All of these problems are expected on budget laptops so its not like it caught me by surprise, but objectively speaking it means the laptop is not perfect. Over all the laptop is still good. The keyboard feels good, the hinge feels sturdy (I have heard some bad things about ideapad hinges but so far so good), the ryzen 5500u is really good. it comes with an NVME drive which makes boot up and load times blazing fast. track pad is responsive. I bought this laptop mainly as a tool to experiment with Linux again as I have been away from it for years. So for those who are interested, Linux works great on it, specifically Elementary OS 6. Everything worked right out of the box. The only driver that I really needed to fix was for the bluetooth everything else worked great. So I'm assuming that most Ubuntu based distros should work flawlessly. I played games on it using steam. native Linux 3d games from 2011 and up like the Witcher 2 should run well on medium to low settings. 2d games like Mark of the Ninja should have no problems. I also ran Monster Hunter World under proton but I can only get a decent framerate on low settings. This is a great laptop for the price. I think if you can find it on sale, don't even think twice. just buy it. Its already a good value on its MSRP.
I had this computer less than 2 months. I don't know if it overheated as it was on my bed and the led screen went out. I tried to get it replaced and they wouldn't cover it under warranty. Wouldn't by another Lenovo. Inferior products by a Dell or something else
This machine itself is fine. Good speed, four star screen, and my diminishing eyesight drove me to this lighted keyboard. However, I have come to this new platform directly from a 2007 MacBook with an obsolete and an industry orchestrated non upgradeable 10.6 operating system. The Win. 10 system here has rendered the entire lower right hand corner obscured with horribly irritating ads. I've had to turn off all my sound as the pop ups announce themselves constantly. I will probably give this platform to charity and won't buy again unless I get a home trial as I can't stand trying to understand something this complex standing at a counter in a store.
Overall this is a good laptop for under $500. The processor and storage are very fast, 8 gb of RAM is enough for most people and th build is decent. The screen is not great in terms of contrast and quality but at least it's not dim. I'm using this for work and got it under a budget and am happy enough with it. The fingerprint sensor is fast and a nice touch. I wish the USB C port could be used for charging the laptop. If I were buying something for personal use, I would spend some more to get a better screen but the guts of this machine are rock solid.
After seeing a positive review for this item on a popular social media channel, I chose to buy this model. To its credit, Walmart shipped the item overnight at no additional charge; I had the item barely 24 hours after ordering it. I've been working with computers for over 20 years now -- and currently own three laptops. My aim was to have this Lenovo replace a nine-year-old Acer (still in superior condition, and can fly -- but with an aging HDD.) All of my computers have AMD processors; in my view (and that of many, many others), AMD CPUs/GPUs generally offer better graphics performance than comparable Intel chips. After spending several hours with the Lenovo, I can attest that, with some simple tweaks (turning off unneeded services and adding some third-party debloating software), the AMD 5500u is lightning fast. However -- and this is a big however for people who care about graphics performance -- the ultra fast speed appears to come at the expense of graphics performance. Notably, one can enter the Lenovo's BIOS and adjust the amount of VRAM. But doing so appears to make no difference. Picture and text quality are always slightly blurry and grainy; and video performance is particularly poor. Indeed, I've noticed the same characteristics in other AMD Ryzen fourth generation (the 4000 series) and fifth generation (the 5000) series models: blazing fast processing speeds -- coupled with lesser graphics and video quality. By way of comparison, I have an Acer with a Ryzen 3 3200u processor (third generation), with very good speed and outstanding graphics/video quality. I've returned the Lenovo; and while I still prefer AMD chips, I'd also recommend a third generation chip, rather than a fourth or fifth generation one. Microsoft has said Windows 11 will work with third generation AMD chips, which is a positive. The one negative, however, may be that finding a major brand laptop with such a chip may be a challenge.
