The self-propelled feature makes it pretty nice, as our yard has some up and down areas in the back, and a steep incline in the front... it really does help. I would like to see it run at more than 2.3Mph, but it is good enough. The picture seemed misleading to me, because I thought the front wheels were going to be larger than the back, but that is not the case. Overall, it is a good buy for the power and cutting area, and good for a small to larger than normal yard. We have more than half a football field's area to mow, and it can do all that on a tank of fuel, and still have fuel left in the tank.

I bought this mower three months ago to replace a ten-year-old "exact" version of it. This new mower is the updated replacement of the "Murray" badged FWD self-propelled mower I have that finally mowed its last lawn after ten years of reliable service. I assumed that the only difference between my old mower and this new one I bought would be the paint scheme and the hubcaps (the old one is red with grey wheels)... but, to my dismay, much in the way of quality has suffered over the years. First, the old "Murray" mower was a workhorse - strong, solid, quick starts, reliable and quiet. The new "Brute" (mind you, it's the EXACT same mower, engine, layout and model series, just ten years newer) is absolute rubbish. I assumed when buying this mower that I would be getting the same level of quality I received when I bought the old one a decade ago, just a freshly painted version of it - but, no. I have owned this new one for just under three months now and used it only 4 times and the "hubcaps" have fallen off, the rear wheels have moved out of alignment and the transmission has a broken gear tooth, so it now "hiccups" every tire rotation. Second, I assumed that by keeping the old one I would have many spare parts. Well, it seems that I would be using many of those spare parts, except that I will be returning and exchanging this new one for another (hopefully more reliable) one. Although the motors on both are very well built and "torquey" (Briggs & Stratton - what more can I say), this new version's transmission and wheel assemblies are very poorly built. Unlike the old version, which all of it's components were comprised of solid metal parts, this new version, while exactly the same (albeit a tad bit lighter), has many of it's components formed from plastics, and it has really taken the overall quality to unbelievably low levels. Also, both of them have poorly designed handlebars. It's quite "loose" and you will definitely notice it when you push down to make a turn, but it's easily amendable with larger bolts that you can purchase from the hardware store. In conclusion, although they look the same, that is where the similarities end. It's like comparing a rock-solid '67 Buick Skylark to a WTFPOS '97 Buick Skylark. Personally, I would be better off just repairing my old Murray (and I bet I could easily get another ten years out of her). My advice to others... Do not buy this mower or maybe try to find an older version of it with the metal transmission. You'll be much better off with the metal one - trust me!

Bought this model because of past experience with a Briggs and Stratton motor and this one does not disappoint. One-pull starting out of the box!! Second reason for buying was the self-propelled feature. Just slide the lever forward and be prepared to get your lawn cut in record time. Set up out of the box was easy, easy, easy and this is a very maneuverable mower. Would definitely recommend and even buy again.

this thing after we used it about 5xs the hubcaps fell off, the rear wheels came loose, the drive cable snaped off, accidently hit a rock and the motor snaps aloose from the deck, OMG!

It worked as I expected. It has good power and the self propell feature works at a good speed. The little yellow hubcaps don't stay on though but that's okay. Also, the carburetor will flood if you push the gasoline primer too many times. A good mower all around, I recommend it.
