Cocoon Cam Plus, Wi-Fi Video Baby Monitor

I really enjoy the functionality that the Cocoon Cam provides in a baby monitor. The highlights of the product for me include monitoring babies breathing and being able to monitor baby from your phone. The breathing monitoring helps provide piece of mind that baby is safely sleeping. I feel so blessed the technology exists to monitor the well being of my baby. It's also very convient that this product just uses the camera to monitor the breathing so nothing to put on baby. I also really enjoy that I can just pull up the app on my phone to monitor baby. It's really helpful for naps since I already have my phone on me and don't have to carry the phone and baby monitor. The image provided on the app is very clear. One downside of this product is it is not very portable. You have to install it in a very specific way over the crib so that the camera can accurately monitor breathing. So if you are looking for a more mobile camera or one that you don't need a smartphone for, you might find this product doesn't serve your needs. We were thrilled to receive this product from weeSpring Parent Panel for free for our opinion because we could have a more modern camera that was connected to our phone or iPad. Unfortunately it required us to be on WiFi all the time and did not always pick up things accurately all the time. I wanted to love this monitor because I just had a basic one that connected to another receiver but does have video. But the cocoon cam took too much to always be on, it didn't just come on when there was motion or apnea. I could never close the app otherwise it would not be monitoring him. I'm a pretty laid back mom so the breathing portion of this is a great option but not something I needed to worry about. So it does the trick if you have unlimited WiFi and you want to keep the app open all night, for us though we'll stick to a more simple monitor.

The Cocoon Cam baby monitor is a neat innovation that attempts to be a baby video monitor and breathing monitor in one. Setup was fairly straightforward, with the exception that the CocoonCam app didn't like our WiFi password. Once that was straightened out, setup went smoothly. Unfortunately we also continually get connectivity errors despite having Fios and fast WiFi. In fact, the image and sound quality are great, the biggest issue is that the breathing monitor often doesn't work. Oddly it worked randomly for about a month so I did have a chance to test that feature, and I will say I wasn't too disappointed when it stopped working again. For us at least the breathing monitor wasn't terribly accurate, for example often giving readings (and alerts!) when there was no baby in the crib. The alerts that baby was waking were somewhat useful, but often came in after I had already noticed the baby was up. I'm happy I had a chance to try this product for free as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel, but am not sure I would pay the price premium for features that at least to me didn't add much to the monitor.

I have been recommending the Cocoon Cam Plus to every new parent we know since receiving it. My husband had such an easy time setting it up and connecting it to our WiFi. The video is super clear on our phones, even when I am away and checking in on him from a date night or mom's night out. I appreciate the breathing monitoring, especially with our youngest having some health issues early on in his life. The motion detection works 99% of the time, and if it is having trouble, often a quick reset of the app fixes the issue. I love that I can easily access the app from anywhere, and that we can share access with the babysitter or grandparents if needed. The graphs are nice, but I rarely look at them. What I do like is the Daily Swaddle Story! It gave me great insight to how my baby slept! I cannot recommend the Cocoon Cam enough. I received this monitor to try as part of the weeSpring Parent Panel, and it was great timing as my other video monitor broke. It was a little tricky to configure my phone with the camera initially but after I got it setup I never had to redo it. The picture quality was excellent from the start and I do really enjoy the ability to monitor breathing. It can always detect my baby's breathing, even when she has a sleep sack on. My only complaint is that I wish they had an additional hand-held sound monitor as a backup, in case my phone is lost, or I'm using the audio for something else on my phone, or a sitter is watching the kids. I have an inexpensive sound monitor I use for these instances. The best thing about the monitor is the Cocoon Cam customer service. I had one instance of my phone not connecting to the camera and they were incredibly helpful. After I had this monitor for a few months, the display on the camera was appearing very dark, I contacted the company and they quickly determined it was an issue with the camera and sent me a new one right away. They made sure to follow up with me and were so accommodating and helpful. Some of the best customer service I've ever had! Great overall experience!
