Cutler sounds more fully integrated into the band than on the previous album, and singer/songwriter Steve Wynn's tunes are sharper and more direct than anything since the band's phenomenal debut, THE DAYS OF WINE AND ROSES; the tender ballad "Whatever You Please" is one of his finest songs. Elsewhere, the bluesy "Withered and Torn" and "Loving the Sinner, Hating the Sin" reveal a surprisingly apropos British R&B aspect of Wynn's songwriting, more John Mayall's Bluesbreakers than Stax/Volt. This version includes bonus tracks not on the Enigma Records original.
