Grinds coffee well enough but very frustrated by the mess it makes. Always have to hit the grinder to get all the grounds out even for coarser grinds. On top of that, grinds always land outside the collector and I end up vacuuming the area daily. I've considered reaching out to the company for a refund. It's honestly more frustrating than a grinder ought to be.
Not at all happy with this product. I am in the process of returning it. It worked for a short time (about two weeks) and then clogged up. Even though I cleaned it out thoroughly and unclogged all grounds, it kept re-clogging. It is a poor design as not all of the ground coffee is dispensed into the cup so grinds building up and ultimately clog the machine. I am switching to a different company.
got this about a week ago. Grinding is great, fast, and the non static feature on the cup also works wonders to keep the grinder from making a mess. I don't give it 5 starts because it has a lot of coffee retention. I've put 18 g of coffee and gotten 17 g afterwards.
I bought this a year ago, so I've had time to live with it. I got it specifically because I was looking for a quality burr grinder that was quieter than my current (a Baratza Encore). In terms of size and looks, it's executed well. It's modern, sleek, and has a reasonable footprint. Adjusting the grind size is simple and further adjustments of the burrs themselves is easy too. In terms of sound/noise, comparing it to my Baratza Encore, the Opus is definitely better. No grinder is quiet, but the Opus is less harsh and definitely quieter, but it's not the silver bullet to grinding quietly in the morning without waking people. All great, so why 3 stars? Well, my problem is the significant amount of grind retention and the mess created by static. Yes, I know all grinders are plagued with this and spraying the beans before grinding can help, but the way the basket fits under the chute allows static to push grinds out all over. Tapping the sides isn't enough to release the grinds stuck in the grinder either. In comparison to my Encore, the Opus doesn't come close in this regard, which is a disappointment for a machine that is otherwise, well designed.
Great user experience, for both filter and espresso. On the fine end it's more than fine enough to get good shots. I make 1-2 batches in a coffee maker and 0-2 shots (mostly decaf) on a flair pro 2 every day, and I feel like I'm only able to do that because (1) it's not a hand grinder which to me would be too annoying to do all that with, and (2) it's so easy to switch back and forth. My one annoyance is that there's a decent amount of retention which requires you to hit it multiple times and use the top cover as a bellows to blow out the remaining coffee, but I do this after every time I grind so obviously it can't be that annoying. Also since I'm getting out that retained coffee, I don't worry about purging any coffee when switching between filter and espresso which I'd find unjustifiably wasteful. Also I've never seen a negative effect in shot quality immediately after switching (albeit in using the flair pro so if you're using a 58 ymmv). I'll also add that it's surprisingly easy to clean. Overall I'm incredibly satisfied with my purchase and look forward to using it until the thing dies on me (whenever that day comes).
