I bought my first Advantium 21 years ago and used it multiple times a day. It was one of those items that I had to replace, I loved it so much! I use all of the functions it has. The microwave is great, but the halogen heat is wonderful for biscuits, pizza, toast, potatoes…the list goes on and on.

While we just installed this, so far it makes great bananna bread and pizza. we have the 220v version it heats up faster than a conventional oven and bakes great in addition to being a great microwave without the heat from a regular oven, great option in the Arizona desert!

Ours was installed when our house was built in 2014. The magnetron and power supply died after about four years (service call). One of the top two halogen bulbs died at the 5.5 year mark as well as one of the wheels broke off of the turntable under the glass platter (limped along without both). The entire unit died when the unit was only seven and a half years old. It just cost us to replace the unit with a new one. We had to replace the unit with a new one because the installation cut out is unique for this model in our built-in cabinet and our wiring is for a 230 V installation. A couple other things to note, are 1) the microwave function is relatively weak – it takes 3 minutes to boil a cup of water, 2) the light in the unit has to be turned on manually while you're cooking and only stays on about four seconds before automatically shutting off if you wish to see the food you are cooking, 3) the clock is not displayed when the unit is not running and 4) the stainless steel interior stains badly from cooking splatters and is impossible to clean. Also note, that the glass microwave platter has to be switched out with a metal platter when you want to use the oven instead of the microwave and then switched back when you are finished. That process can be rather tedious. We expected more from GE for an expensive, weak microwave and small convection oven combo that only lasted 7 years.

When choosing appliances as part of our entire home gut and remodel we had to balance a lot of things, including the budget (when you are doing a house and not just a kitchen, there are calls for funds from every room). I looked at a lot of brands but was really intrigued by GE's Advantium technology. I compared it with all the other speedcook ovens on the market and really felt GE's approach was vastly superior. However, I knew of no one who owned one so I was never able to see one demonstrated or test the results. So I just read what I could fine online. This item is definitely a splurge with its hefty price tag. But we decided to go for it and put our faith in the reviews. I can't comment on reliability as we just moved back in a week ago from being out of our home for 6 months. But what I can tell you is that every day we've lived here we've used the thing. From chicken, to pork chops, cinnamon rolls and even Texas Toast--perfect. All with no pre-heating, which I did not really think about in advance as a big feature, but is a huge time saver. I keep thinking about how I can use this for everything all the time...it is truly revolutionary. If it wasn't so expensive, I'm certain everyone would have one of these already. One caution--the items that come out of this thing are hot--just like a conventional oven. Because of that I wish I had mounted it a little lower than directly above my regular oven--it is hard to reach with pot holders into its tiny microwave-sized cavity to pull hot baking dishes out without touching the burning sides of the oven, particularly when it is so high in the wall. Since moving in I have used everyone one of my GE appliances, from the induction cooktop, built-in refrigerator, DW, disposal etc. The only one I have not used is the regular conventional oven. That's because this Advantium technology makes that thing obsolete for almost everything. You'll love it!

So far this has been a good microwave/ oven and we have not had any issues with it. The speed cook works really well. The only thing is when I have guest it is a little bit more steps to use the normal microwave feature on it than I think really needs to be. This is the only thing I would change but it really is one of a kind.
