These have always worked well for me. The results are usually within a few 1/10ths of the one at the doctors office. Follow the directions in the steps outlined in the directions and the unit will operate as described. One caveat is that you need to check the sides of the box to ensure you do not have one that has expired.
I'm a diabetic and get my A1C checked every 3 months through a lab where they take my blood from a vein. This last time, I tested with the ReliOn home kit right before going to the lab to see how accurate it is...it said 7.4. When the results came back from the lab it said 8.6. I don't know how it could be off by so much when there was literally an hour between the two tests. Just know if you use this product it will show your results lower by at least a point than what they actually are.
I ran across this product in Walmart when I bought my ReliOn glucose monitor. The glucose meter was easy to use with no problems, so thought I would try this to check my A1C. It has been since July since my doctor had this test ran and my reading was 6.6. I checked my A1C with the ReliOn tonight and it was 6.3. I am satisfied with that reading since I have been dieting and cut out all refined sugar from my diet. I will check it again in December. This product is easy to use once you follow all the directions which I had fully memorized before the test. For two tests per box the price is good.
Not a good product bought it read the direction twice before I started so prepared the sample and inserted the cartridge in the unit which it should display Waite then Sample and instead gave me an error QC34 and that's before I put the sample in the device I called them they don't have this error in there book they told me to Waite one hour and try the second sample so I did with same results
I had used the Bayer home A1C test in the past, and was disappointed it was off the market. It was pretty accurate and a reasonable way to check A1C at home between Dr. visits and official labs. I was hoping the ReliOn would be similar. My Reli-on test showed 6.3. That was a little distressing, since I had been keeping my A1C below 6 with diet and exercise. I ended up paying for a lab test to verify. The lab test was 5.9. So, not great, but much better. The Reli-on test served a good purpose, in that the higher result motivated me to work even harder on my diet and exercise. By finding out at least the general range I was in, it indicated that my A1C was rising, so I had stay focused on my plan. It gets easy to drift a bit. But, I did end up using a lab test to find out for sure where I was at. So, it is probably best to use it just to get a general idea, but not rely on it too much. (no pun intended). It would be expensive to do both the home test then a lab. So, I suggest if someone wants to use it, use it midway between lab tests, just to get a general idea. But, check out lab costs. It might be more cost effective just to take a minute to run in and get a lab check. There are some self-order lab options (Walk-in Labs for example). If you don't mind getting on their mailing lists, you can usually watch for discounts.
