Overall, this scope has been wonderful. I especially value the ability to easily share the view with others. This is a great tool to generate continued interest in science, especially astronomy. I do have two requests for the future. 1. I hope that a higher resolution chip can be incorporated in future versions. 2. The connection process from my scope to phone doesn't work 100% of the time on the first try. I would like that to be reliable 100% of the time.
A great product, allowing me to observe the stars from my backyard. User friendly app, nice battery life, fancy design. Easy to carry thank to the backpack. I recommend!
I have had a few nights of viewing and testing and these are my first impressions. The eVscope 2 telescope is exceptionally well designed, especially for those who want: 1. A lightweight and portable telescope. The eVscope only weighs 9 kilos including the tripod and it is possible to carry it (and the tripod) in a rucksack. I bought the dedicated Unistellar rucksack, which is specially designed for it, with the telescope and it is of high quality and fits like a glove. Great for travel and storage. 2. The possibility of seeing deep sky objects, even in light polluted skies. Since I've had it I have not had very clear skies (with some quite thick cloud) but it has located nebulae and galaxies in surprising detail (even though, unsurprisingly, Unistellar don't recommend its use with cloudy skies). 3. The possibility of having a photographic record of what's been observed. The camera works exceptionally well for a small reflector (only 4.5", which keeps the weight down). The Enhanced Vision feature stacks images automatically and creates stunning images both in the eyepiece (which is also excellent, adjustable and made by Nikon), and on a mobile phone or tablet screen. The photos are sent directly to the photo gallery on the scope and the device you use to control it. Even in poor conditions I've already got impressive photos and they can also be created with information about the object photographed. This is just one of the details that make this telescope stand out (like the two extra screws for the tripod in case of loss). 4. The efficiency, speed and convenience of setup and use so that observation time can be maximised. It's amazing how quickly set up is, and the speed of its GPS orientation is accurate and incredible considering I've had cloudy skies. 5. An efficient, well-designed and easy to use and accurate app which orients the telescope automatically (even with poor skies). There are occasions when the app has frozen but closing it and opening it again has, up to now, always solved the problem. 6. Simple to use interface between a phone or tablet which makes finding an object and getting basic information about it a dream. 7. No cables, no external batteries and no need to change eyepieces, and the ability to share your screen with other people (an advantage that means that friends don't have to take turns at the eyepiece and see everything in real time). 8. All the tools for adjustments, including Allen keys for the tripod and a Bahtinov mask for precise focus. Collimation, by the way, is necessary, but this is made easy by the excellent instructions in the manual (and online) and the app. 9. The possibility of doing citizen science. I haven't tried this yet but Unistellar is partnered with SETI and already has a number of scientific campaigns (which itself suggests how good this telescope is). 10. A beautiful piece of kit. This is not the most important factor in my view but I think when paying premium prices great design in every area (from the ergonomics to aesthetics) is important. It's a joy to look at. Final comments. This telescope has all the above advantages but it should be noted that it is not specifically designed for astrophotography at a professional level - but it's great for the amateur astronomer (as stated, I couldn't believe the first images I produced and am overjoyed by the photos I've saved). Viewing with a mobile phone or the electronic eyepiece does not give the sharpness and immersive views you can expect with excellent eyepieces and a high quality refractor or reflector but what it achieves is remarkable. However, with the eVscope you have everything you need in a minimalist package (no heavy tripod, cables, computer, stacking programs etc. etc.). It is important to know what you're buying and why. If you've got these clear I don't think the telescope will disappoint - quite the opposite.
If you live where light pollution is a problem - and don't always have the ability to head to a dark sky sight - this is the perfect telescope for you. Time to setup and start observing is 5 minutes - max. And the portability (via the backpack) can't be beat. First target was M82, the Cigar Galaxy. And despite less than ideal seeing conditions (festoon lighting overkill), the eVscope 2 performed admirably. iPhone interface via the Unistellar app couldn't be easier or more seamless.
I've had the UV2 now for a couple months & I like it a lot. Watching the object come into view on my phone while sitting on the couch is cosmic ! My wife has taken an interest as well. This new technology scope was my early retirement gift to ME ! Clear Skies Always !
