Love the chipper....HATE (with white hot burning passion) the blade replacement. Been happily using the wood chipper and wanted to reverse the blades. I'm an engineer and am so mad at whatever torque setting manufacturing uses to bolt in the blades. Cleaned the heads of the bolts first with wire brush - yes, used penetrating lubricant - yes, tried hand T40 to remove - yes, used impact driver with T40 - yes. Stripped out the bolts - yes, tried using an easyout to remove the stripped out bolts - yes. Are the now mangled bolts still stuck in there.....YES. Two of the four bolts came out fairly nicely with the impact driver...but on opposite blades of course. The other two are now more or less permanently in there. At this point, I am trying to find a whole blade assembly replacement as the old blades seem to be more or less permanently in there....to no avail. Not sure where to go now. It it weren't for the blade exchange saga I've currently going through...I would easily give this product 5 stars for doing what I needed it to do.
Lately, the blades don't seem to be holding up. I am on my 4th chipper, 1st one worn out, 2 now in use on different properties, and 1 in reserve, still boxed. Little chipper works extremely well for what it is, and branches too big for it are few enough that it's not a problem to cut and bag them. But the blades must be really sharp. It doesn't work if the blades get dull. Stuff just rattles around inside and it jams. The blades I have recently been receiving don't seem to hold up. They seem to be lasting about 1 hr per side, or 2 hrs per blade. I understand they can be sharpened, but I'm not able to do it. I don't have a sharpener tool and, even if I did, I wouldn't know how. I am checking around for a reasonably priced local sharpening service. I am accumulating a formidable stack of dull blades. The chipper is a huge improvement over bagging up branches and sticks, but the overhead for blades is a bit steep.
I cut 80 wheelbarrows of wood and leaves an it still is working. The only problem is the blades need changing and none in stock.
This is a really good light use chipper. However, do I have to buy a brand new chipper just to get new blades? It's been a full season now with year old, dull blades and still no new blades available. What's the problem?
can't buy replacement blades anywhere, had to have my old blades resharpened. Thought that I would be buying something to last for a long time, but no. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
