Had a similar post that the shelf holding the mail box cracked and could not be replaced. At 16 yrs I can not complain. Bought this post on my own recommendation. Added the magazine holder because I though it added more stateliness to the post, not really for mags. (Nantucket)
I bought two of this planter to pretty-up a stretch of crumbling concrete between my house and the driveway. They do look great--we've had compliments from strangers walking by--and I think they will be perfect for blueberries. We can't grow blueberries in the garden because our soil and water are too alkaline, but with this planter I am able to control the pH of the soil and water much easier. I have only two minor complaints: 1. They did not come with holes to access the root-watering reservoir (not a problem now, since I am watering them from the top to help them get established) 2. The plastic is not smooth, and so there are always little bits of dust/dirt getting stuck on the outside. I imagine this would not be so noticeable with a darker planter, and it's not noticeable from a distance, but it is still annoying. Spraying the sides with a hose doesn't seem to help much, maybe because the bits are stuck in tiny indents.
This rain barrel fits my need for beauty and functionality on my patio. Its dimensions allowed me to install a water collection device to keep my patio dry from roof run-off , saving my furniture from excess water exposure. Its smaller dimensions and arts and crafts look fit well with my house.
I bought one of these planters two years ago. It has sat outside my front door for all this time. I can't vouch for the other colors, but white has stood up well. I have had several kinds of plants growing in it and all have done well. In the Texas summer heat, its water reservoir is a "lifesaver." So I just bought another one for outside the garage doors. I hope to grow a camellia in it. Stay Tuned!
I have a clematis in it and a trellis behind it. I have some herbs in one that come back every year, and I fill in with violas in the fall/winter and annuals for spring/summer. The depth of soil makes it just like planting in the ground, only with better soil, so all the plants do really well.
