I bought the tincture of iodine to add It to my first aid kit. Iodine is: • a disinfectant for skin wounds, prior to surgery, or prior to inserting a needle • some people apply it externally to remove growths such as skin tags or moles • some say its an effective cure for toenail fungus • some people use it as a means to test for thyroid performance (how quickly a topical application on a test spot is absorbed into the skin) This tincture is a solution of 2% iodine suspended in alcohol and potassium iodide, with a shelf life of up to 5 years. It should be stored in a closed container, not exposed to sunlight, and in a temperature not to exceed 95 degrees. Be aware that iodine tincture stains skin and clothing, and it stings when applied to an open cut or abrasion. For external use only. Not for internal use. Avoid getting it near or in your eyes. Consult your doctor. This bottle is marked: Caution: Poison. This product is not to be used in the event of exposure to radiation; for that, preppers suggest Potassium Iodide tablets or capsules.
