I have been sewing with sewing machines all my life and was thrilled to order the 4423 HD from Walmart.com. So the day after it was delivered I opened the box to enjoy my new machine. Much to my dismay, I was cheated from enjoying it. I got everything all set up, grabbed a piece of material and started to sew....... Oh No! it is sewing backwards... It was actually sewing backwards! Then I thought, it must be a setting... So I went over the whole machine trying to remedy the situation. Nothing worked. Nothing. I think the "feed" was all messed up. I am resigned to the fact that this is just one of those things that happens. So I had to take it back to our Walmart store for a refund. They were very nice about the whole thing and we appreciated that. Tomorrow I'll go back to the store and pick up another Singer similar to the 4423HD because I prefer Singer Machines. And the reason I'll buy it at the Walmart store is convenience, no need to order.
I'm a first time sewer and thought it was going to be very challenging, but this machine is so easy to use! It's had no problem doing the denim and sequin projects I've been working on. It has a ton of power, I've only used it at about half power and that is PLENTY.
I needed to replace my very old Singer and chose this model because I was interested in a straight forward machine that wasn't computerized. I am an experienced sewer but usually only create basic projects. This machine exceeded my expectations. First, it's SO light weight compared to my old machine. It's also very quiet compared to my old machine. It has all the features I'm looking for and is super easy and simple to use. My first project was making masks. This machine whipped through the heavy, multiple layers of fabric. What a delight to use. Next project is a t-shirt quilt for my daughter to take to college...as soon as supplies become more plentiful
When I first received this machine it came threaded as it had been used and returned. I sent an email to inquire and was advised machines are pretested and that was probably the case also there was no manual in the package, but was advised it was available on line. I use the machine and when I went to fix the thread on the bobbin,I couldn't replace the plastic case. Found out the clip on the plate the plastic cover goes under is bent. Now I believe this machine was returned and resold. I have sent 2 emails to singer to address this concern and have not gotten a response. So I am not a happy consumer. I realize it may take longer for a response with all going on,but its been almost a week from the day I sent the first email.
I'm a 67 year old male who has never sewed before. I've used any number of woodworking power tools, but this is entirely new. Fortunately there are any number of support tutorials available online. While at the moment I'm making masks for the virus effort, I can see applications for my sculptural and kinetic art projects. I picked this machine because it can handle canvas and leather. So far, I'm very pleased. Bobbin winding is flawless. Threading takes a few moments to get things lined up, but I've gotten better with practice. I would recommend this sewing machine.
