I actually like wrinkles, but my wife insisted I fix this thing anyway. It's her "nice" one apparently. No heat, no power indicator light when plugged it. I opened it up and saw the problem immediately. The power cable wires land at this terribly low quality press-fit brass terminal connection on top of the cord reel assembly. The mating connectors don't even seem like they're supposed to go together. One of them had popped right off it's mate, and the other one was about to do the same. My expectations for the quality of a product like this are pretty low, but nevertheless I was surprised at the lack of effort put into the design of the electrical connection. It's very fragile. A hard knock could easily break them loose. A soft knock even. Anyway, for lack of suitable replacement terminals I just decided to solder the wires back to their posts and secure things a little better with a hot glue gun. It's a better mechanical connection, but if you end up doing the same as me try to find high-temp solder. The wires power the heater, and there's a chance the normal stuff could melt and the wire come loose again. I used typical solder, and I've been running this one at max for a half hour and it's still going, but long term who knows. A right angle crimp connector would be preferable and probably easier to buy locally if you have some pliers and strong hands to crimp it. (3 x T10 torx screws in the base. Pry off the rubber pads for access. Pull the cord out halfway to get easier access to the hard to reach one. It's through a hole on the handle side of the base, way up in there past the cord retraction button).
We got this as a housewarming gift in 2016 so we don't have a receipt for the warranty. I used the iron usually on weekends only. I started using this one regularly and all of sudden it died last week. Red light is on but after trying everything I can't get it to heat up.
The cable is not working
I bought this iron a week ago and its terrible. It wont stay hot, the settings don't seem to matter, and it seems I get to use it once for about 30 seconds and I have to unplug it from the wall and plug it back in. They really should recall this iron.
I got this as a wedding gift in October 2016 so I don't have a receipt for the warranty. I just started using it regularly and in the middle of a sewing project it died. Red light is on and the plate is slightly warm, but after trying everything I can't get it to heat up.
