I have used these headphones several times while flying. I have also tried them in other noisy environments. The noise covering, canceling is too strong, feature worked best with flying. I believe this is by design as there is a specific vibration/background noise in airline travel. The is a noticeable blanketing when you turn it on without an audio input. There is not the same degree of effect in other noisy environments. The other advantage is that it amplifies sound. My experience is that MP3 players and laptops are not loud enough to hear with alone while flying due to a combination of the noise and incomplete ear equalization which dampens the ear drum. This worked very well for this purpose. It does not block background noise which is not what was expected for the money.
I wasn't sure if they would work as advertised, but when I couldn't hear my wife talk to me ten feet away I knew they would be great on the plane. Great bass great sound great noise canceling.
I can see why these headphones are on clearance. Noise reduction is worthless. Very low dynamic range. Bass response is the pits, like a lot of other earbuds. One thing they do real well...They will NOT get hopelessly tangled as other earbuds do. The days are gone when you could could rely on the Philips brand to be substantially better. They get away with charging a premium for the Philips name, but this product and a lot of their others really no longer offer anything signifcant for the extra price they charge. Definately buy something else and I highly recommend another brand name. By the way, Skullcandy is another HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!!
I bought this product because I work in a large commercial plant and wanted something to listen to music while I was working. It does not keep any noise out, just gets louder when you turn the "noise cancellation" switch on. Might work better in a office or something, not sure since I don't work in one. And for Ipod users, it will not fit since the headphone jack is larger than the jack on the Ipod. Hope anyone else that buys it is happier than mine. The positive side to it is that it has a nifty little strap that you can put around your neck to prevent the earbuds from being pulled out.
Iv'e owned a pair like these before that worked really well so I thought I would buy another pair I noticed the design is different (the box is bigger and there is no fabric around the wires) but I liked the last pair and they lasted a long time, these are nowhere near as good, much more cheaply made they latest around a month before one ear piece gave up then the other, rubbish!
