The Sun Joe chipper is great for small clwanup jobs. when loading the branches you need to be careful that once they are being pulled into the chipper that the branch ends don't slap you in the face . I have use this to mulch 3/4 in branches or smaller. It doesn't do well with branches of 1 inch or larger. the machine doesn't reverse so if you get a branch stuck you have to manually clear it.
I was sent a used piece if equipment. Sun Joe should make sure when they recieve items back THEY DO NOT SELL THEM AS NEW! I paid for a NEW woodchipper and recieved a used one and parts where missing. the bolts, screws and washers were not in the box and the equipment was dusty. When I opened the box you could see it was re-taped and all the packing was torn inside as well.
Got this for a bunch of scrub oak brunches I had collecting in my yard. I used to burn them but lately it's been too windy. This works pretty good. I watched a YouTube tutorial to see about how much I needed to break the branches so wouldn't jam. So far I'm pretty pleased. I tried pine needles and leaves just for fun, but it didn't really do anything to those. You can probably put slightly larger limbs in if they have no bends and aren't too strong. I stuck with the recommended 1.5 diameter though.
This chipper is a beast. It amazes me it's as good as it is for an electric model. Handled everything I gave it and asked for more. Limbs an inch thick I thought it would struggle with chewed them right up. I tell ya it's a little beast. I was hesitant to purchase an electric model, but considering the price point I couldn't help but try it out. I haven't been disappointed at all. You will have to use the proper extension cord or it may not even turn on. Use of a lower gauge will certainly ruin the unit. Just don't expect this to run and handle things like a gas powered one and you'll do fine. Chips came out nice and small. In the pic I attached I spread them out over some larger store bought. These will decompose a lot better and quicker than the store bought chips. Landscaping light for size reference. I highly recommend this chipper. Very happy with my purchase.
After reading lots of positive reviews and the great warranty I decided on the SunJoe. I have used this now for only a couple of hours and am very pleased, it's quieter than I expected, didn't seem to strain much on one inch branches, and was consistent in the size of the chips. I was looking at gas powered models as I didn't want a toy, but the cost, storage footprint, and as infrequently as I really need a chipper I decided to give this a try. I'm very pleased at this point and highly recommend the SunJoe for the average homeowner.
