I have replaced several damaged CDs in the past. That gets expensive. A friend recommended that I get a CD repair kit, so I searched Website for a product that appeared to provide value for cost. This was my choice. After I read the instructions, I used it on a disc that had been played only once and became scratched. The process is simple and straightforward. When it came out of the machine, the playback was as if it was just out of the package and never played. Im impressed enough that I plan to never replace a damaged CD again.

to along with this refill kit. (you can buff your discs by hand with these buffer wheels, but thats a terrible way to spend the afternoon (plus, you might not buff them evenly, further damaging your discs!)This kit should work on just about any type of disc: CD, DVD, Blue-Ray, XBox, PlayStation, et cetera. How it works:-A disc (be it a DVD, CD, Blue-Ray, etc) has information stored on a metallic surface (like aluminum), which is protected on (the label side), by a thin, hard material. The other side, is covered in plastic, and left blank, so it an be read by a laser.-When a disc gets scratched, it is usually the protective plastic surface that gets scratched. As long as these surface scratches are not too deep, the disc is repairable. If a disc is cracked, or a scratch is so deep it penetrates the plastic layer, damaging the actual data, the disc is not repairable (it may be recoverable, with some very expensive equipment/expertise).-This kit is used for fixing minor surface scratches, or resurfacing the disc. Imagine a heavily-worn wood floor. There are scratches and scuffs all over it. In simplistic terms, the floor is repaired by removing the wood down to level of the deepest scratch. That is basically what this kit is doing--bringing the surface of the disc back to one plane so it can be read by the laser again.-The amount of resurfacing to be done will depend on how deep the scratch is, which is why there are three types of pads (red, yellow (or white), and blue).-NOTE that a scratched disc is a DAMAGED disc. You are attempting to repair something. Resurfacing is not maintenance. A disc does not get scratched due to regular, incidental use. It gets damaged due to misuse, neglect, or poor storage (which, I guess, technically falls into the neglect category). How to perform a repair: NOTE: I am not a professional. This is my experience. Take this advice as you would your fat, unshaven, annoying co-workers advice on picking up girls.1. Clean the disc using the blue pads and the cleaning solution. NOTE: the cleaning solution provided in the kit is basically rubbing alcohol. Just a nugget of wisdom for a rainy day.Cleaning accomplishes two things: 1) you may just have material **** on the disc, rather than an actual scratch. If the disc looks substantially different after cleaning it, try playing it to see if you solved the problem. If it works, there is no need to perform resurfacing. 2) Having a clean surface will allow the other pads to work more-effectively, as they wont be smearing around your three year-olds residual peanut butter sandwich all over the disc.2. Red pads versus yellow pads: If the disc still is not working after cleaning it, assess the level of damage. One way to do this, is to gauge the scratch using your fingernail. If the scratch is deep enough to catch your fingernail (basically, if you can feel it running your fingernail over it), you will want to use the red pads. If the scratches cannot really be felt with your fingernail, you should only need the yellow pads.3. Run the repair cycle with the appropriate colored pads. DONT FORGET to add the polishing cream. The polishing cream acts to keep you discs from MELTING in the repair process, so, yeah, lets not forget that.-If you are running the red pads, run as many cycles as necessary to get to where scratches can no longer be felt with a fingernail, then run the yellow pads.4. Clean your disc after resurfacing. You dont want gunk left on the disc to gum-up your disc player, so be sure to run the blue pads at the end of your repair regimen. And thats that. This is not a magical solution. It is a slow and tedious process, like honing a perfect cutting blade (except that heavy-handed oafs like you and me can do it).

love this kit....though priced a tad high, it contains all the cleaning and repairing tools necessary for about 50disc repairs and 100cleans. Alertec works for me.

I bought the machine a while back so I just got the refill this time.If you compare the price its probably better to buy the whole kit with the machine rather than the refill.
