As a woman over 60, found this adequate to do small repairs where inserting or removing old screws were a problem .
I recently was given this drill as a house warming gift since i just purchased my first home. The drill is great. Its lightweight while still having enough power to handle the smaller jobs i opted to fix myself around the house (tightened some handles on cabinets, installed shelves in the closet, and i also installed upgraded fans in each of the rooms). Its an awesome purchase even though mine was free. The only thing i wasnt too fond of was the battery life. I did have to charge it more than i would have expected considering it was new. I did end up getting a separate one so i could jump job to job with minimal interruptions.
I was disappointed in the poor quality #2 phillips drive bit supplied with the drill. No amount of pressure could keep it from stripping as you drove screws. I just switched it with the one from my old Black&Decker (18yrs) drill and it was ok. Hard to believe that the bit I had used for 18 years was better than the new one. Very disappointing, make me wonder about quality and life expectancy of my new drill.
I needed a variable speed cordless drill that could hold 1/32 to 1/64 size bits and be small enough not to be bulky, however my funds were limited. Price wise i didn't want to spend over $60 dollars for a small cordless variable speed. This requirement pretty much knocked DeWalt and other big name power-tool companies out of my search index. While Black&Decker is not readily associated with quality power tools, years ago, their QuantumPro line could hold its own. In fact i still have two QuantumPro corded drills from the 80's working fine and they have seen heavy use in flooring construction work. I Finally narrowed down my decision between this drill 12v (LDX112c) and their 29$ 9v drill (LDX1720ZR) Upon comparison I could esaily see that this little 12v was geared much better than the 9v. It is really a torquey little drill. PROs: Price ( comparatively). Small size. Seems well made. Lots or torque for a 12v. Built in light. Variable speed. adjustable clutch. CONs: Claims top speed 650rpm seems more like 500rpm. Narrow battery base does not allow the drill to sit upright (not really a big concern) Placement of the stored driver bit jabs uncomfortably into the palm when grasping the drill( i removed it). I can smell the motor brushes every time i use it. there is sometimes a high pitch electrical while from the motor at the slowest speed. OVERALL: I think its a good value for the money for a compact drill, though, only time will tell for sure.
It's an excellent tool to have around the house.
