Great walk around lens for street photography and for times when you don't want extra weight. Image quality is very good, but do not expect it to perform like L glass. Know what you are buying. I use this on both digital Canon bodies and EOS film cameras. Very happy with my purchase.
This is a nice focal length. Lot's of sharpness packed in a small size. Lens itself is great. It's my walk-about lens. I don't have a camera for it without an adapter. Ideally a small camera that can mate with the EF mount. EOS R or M6 are all fine but I have to use an adapter either way, which is a pity.
Nice compact lens. Perfect for my purpose. Auto focus is quite fast on my m50. This lens with my camera makes a very compact package for digital scoping which is my main purpose. Lens looks new. Great price. Good senseable buy.
One of the sharpest lenses I've ever used, a great match for full frame (and all) sensors. I do mostly travel and landscapes. I love the 40mm coverage on full-frame, and the 60mm equivalent on APS-C. I use a cheap rubber screw-on shade, so that if I bump it, the lens won't be damaged. But I've had misfocuses and balkiness, so that I have to shut off the 5D2 and turn it back on. This does not inspire confidence for weddings or street shooting. My old EF 35mm f2 is more trustworthy for those purposes. My suggestion, Canon, re-issue this otherwise great 40mm lens and get it right this time. My EF-S 24mm f2.8 is also new STM technology and does not seem to have these issues.
I purchased a camera kit, which naturally came with a zoom lens. I wanted something lightweight, suitable for walking around taking pictures at the beach, at cookout, etc. I never fully understood why people would purchase a standard lens when a zoom could cover the focal length of multiple standard lenses. The reason is performance. I was immediately impressed by how sharp the images are with this lens. It has a short focal length, but without any wide angle or fish-eye effect. Colors are vivid. Bokeh is great on subjects close to the camera/lens, about 3-9 feet. This lens is a great value. The price/performance ratio is off the charts. This is a must have for full frame or APS-C cameras.
