I got this gate because it was wide enough for the space I needed to put it in and it had the swing open gate feature and the price was reasonable. However, when I got it and tried to install it, the installation instructions were 16 pages long and required a power drill with two different drill bit sizes. It took me and another person about 30 minutes to just figure out which part was on top or bottom and it was just WAY too difficult. Ended up, after 2 hours of putting it together, I couldn't drill into one side that was needed to install it. FAIL. I returned it for a refund
We have a nine month old daughter that is into everything and everywhere. The most dangerous area in our house is the kitchen so this gate was the perfect solution to block her out of there. The installation was a pain but doable. Time will tell how well I installed it but for now it is doing the job. The price is great for the product you get.
This gate is dangerous. It is made of cheap wood, and very flimsy when set up. A nine month child can easily pull the gate open because the latches are made of rubber. DO NOT buy this product, spend a little more money on a gate that is better made. You get what you pay for.
I read the reviews before purchasing this gate. The instructions seem quite complicated when you read them ahead of time, but as soon as you start to put the gate together, it makes sense. This gate should be considered permanent though. It is drilled into the walls/railings and not really meant to be taken down any time soon after all the installation. It should be stained or painted before you put it up also, as it is unfinished wood. But, I can not find a gate like this , at this price, for our wide 46 inch hallways in our entire house. It doesnt seem sturdy, but it handles what you give it, since it is secured to the walls.
I wanted to add my two cents because there are so many negative reviews here! We have had these gates for over a year and I've been pleased with them. We have two of these gates, one with the extension panel. Installation is quite complex but we found the instructions to be accurate enough. If you take your time and read everything thoroughly it's straightforward enough. My husband and I did them together one night. The gates aren't super solid especially when your child starts swinging on them!! We did have problems with dowels coming out that other reviewers mentioned. We tried superglue and then drilled a hole for an additional screw to hold it together securely. It might be worth doing that before you install just in case it does come apart. This wasn't a big deal to me and was easy to fix - better than a plastic gate breaking which would be impossible to fix! The biggest positives for me are how the gates look - very classy for a babyproofing product and natural wood is so much easier on the eyes than white plastic - and that they can be removed from the doorway. We always took them out when we were entertaining and I loved that about them. The latch is a bit hard to manage and sometimes stick, so they probably wouldn't be great in high traffic area but that's not what we used them for. Overall a good product - when I bought them I thought they were fairly expensive but looking back I think they've been good value. Friends have commented on our "nice gates" and they've done the job we bought them for!
