Amateur to pro level multi-sport athletes will be addicted to this watch and the data output in less than 1 month. The Garmin Connect app is the first thing I open every day. Tracks sleep, and training readiness. Watch is great for tracking all running and swimming training. I suggest pairing with the Garmin HR monitor for both cycling and running. For cycling, I suggest to add any line of the Garmin bike computers, and pair with the Garmin power meter pedals.
I really enjoy this watch, and primarily use it to track mountain bike rides so far, but I wear it daily and also really enjoy the sleep tracking features. It's also nice how you can pull up the weather and air quality, customize the display face of the watch, and download various other "apps" to it. I didn't connect my phone/texts and calls, since I don't want to be that connected to my phone, but it was an option. I partially bought this version because of the downloadable maps, but I haven't ended up using this much on trail yet- I expect to use this more when I'm on trails in less familiar places. The face of the watch has a few scratches already- not sure how they came to be, but they're not that noticable or annoying.
I'm very happy with this watch - I've had it for over a year now. I purchased the Sapphire version because I mountain bike and rock climb so I want to ensure the face doesn't get scratched easily and so far, it hasn't! All of the features definitely take time to get used to. I watched multiple videos on YouTube because initially going through everything is overwhelming. Battery life is incredible even when using the watch for daily activities - I charge every few days. My big gripe, is the integrated Weather app. It's very unreliable and requires the phone to be linked to use. I wish the watch could use its internal GPS to pull weather in for the area, but that likely requires incoming data... Overall I'm happy with the watch and recommend it to anyone who wants a rugged, capable watch for outdoor use. I've used the modes for Hiking, Biking, Running, Climbing, Skiing, Golf, and Strength. The last one I recently discovered has a exercise instructions built in to explain what each activity is, in "30-minute Blast" for example, which is awesome.
I've been dreaming of a Fenix 6s Pro Solar who who knows how long. Everything about this watch was desireable to me-especially the ski maps and tracking working in the ski industry. It was a massive splurgem but I wouldn't hesitate to make it again. It is an unreal addition to my life that has me genuinely excited about increased movement, training, and exercise. As a data nerd, this beauty ticks all of the boxes. I love that each menu (Solar intensity, sunrise/sunset, pulseox, step count, sleep, etc) has their individual deep dive in metrics. It can be overwhelming at first figuring out all of the functions, but with patience, curiosity, and a state of play, this thing can become the ultimate training tool. I was on a roadtrip for a week and forgot the specialized charger at home. Because the GPS and music weren't essential, I was able to extend the battery life for the whole week (and beyond). I love that functionality can be disabled to extend the life. Adding a note purely on aesthetics. I have tiny, tiny wrists. To the point that I never wore watches because they never stayed put. I also have bracelets I never remove and it's hard to find something that stays in place without other accessories interfering. This thing fits like a glove, is insanely light, and looks gorgeous with just about anything. I'm hard on my jewelry and was concerned for the watch face (a lot of forums said to forego solar for the saphhire glass) but two weeks of excessive use and this thing still looks brand new. It's an investment, but a worthy one to consider, especially for backpacking, skiing, or overall training and conditioning.
I have no idea how or why I did not focus on Garmin watches prior to this past weekend. Thank you to a hometown running store display and a savvy businessman. Once I tried on options, clearly the answer was to upgrade to the Pro Solar model -- and so glad I did! I am learning something new with this watch every day -- and look forward to adding knowledge along the way. One feature to call out is the ability to switch watch bands -- pop in an out -- and be able to create color combination and add spice to the style!
