I read the old review on this web page and decided to take on the big project. All in the name of your kids :) I figured it would be something for them to do for 5 minutes out of the day and then they would soon say they were bored. Well let me tell you my hubby was not bored when he put this monster together. You must read carefully all the directions. I say this because he put up a board backwards and had to unscrew things and made holes in places that weren't suppose to have holes. The play structure has pretty much everything a kid could want. Just make sure that you are ready to hear your kid say a hundred times to you "is it done yet", "when is it done?" and then barely play on it afterwards because he would raither be playing the wii.
I researched like crazy for weeks trying to find just the right playset for my kids. I wanted one that wouldn't fall apart in a few years, would be safe for them to play on, and wouldn't cost an arm and a leg. I found it in this amazing set! At first I was leery buying it from Walmart, because I wasn't sure if the quality would be the same as buying it from a store that specializes in playsets or directly from the manufacturer. But, I am happy to say that the quality is incredible! My kids LOVE LOVE LOVE it, and I feel confident that they are safe! I know that many of the other reviewers talked about how difficult it was to put together. I was worried about this, since my husband is very computer savvy, but not incredibly handy. So I had a professional assemble it and it only took an hour and a half!!! If you are in the NJ, NY, CT, PA, DE area I highly recommend Dan's Swingset Installation Services. I couldn't be happier that I chose this playset! I highly recommend it!
I did a TON of research before buying on this set. I read about 500 reviews (literally) and looked at no less than 22 sets (from several different manufacturers). Gorilla by far rec'd the greatest ratio of good reviews to bad. The quality and ruggedness of the materials in this set are far greater than sets I've seen at friends and aquaintences homes. Every single item was inlcuded, along with some extra hardware (no, I didn't forget to attach anything ; ). The directions were exceptional. I spent about 30 minutes two nights organizing the materials and checking inventory so when I started construction Saturday morning, it would all be ready. I (and most other people) highly recommend this step! I built this entire thing myself in one day. Took a long lunch break, took a coulpe other breaks to play with the kids and it still only took me less than 11 hours start to finish. If I had a helper and didn't "dilly dally", I'm sure it could have been done in 6-7 hours. Have somebody assemble the rope ladder to save you about 45 minutes or more ; ) Very sturdy, I can jump around on the deck and swing on the swings and go down the slide without this set even noticing me (I go about 190 lbs.). I'm technically too big for the slide, swings, rock wall and tire swing, but I had to try them out and they didn't even budge! The only reason I gave this overall 4 stars instead of 5 is because I did have one board that cracked when I was cranking one of the lag bolts. It's still structurally sound, so I'm not going to replace it. And I wish the canopy was a little heavier duty. Although, whenever it tears (and I expect it will with a year or two of sun and strong wind) I will just replace it with a cedar roof. Another reason was that the swing beam is only long enough for three items, I would have really like four. Lastly the $200 for shipping is hard to swallow. However those are items I knew going into the purchase. The delivery was much faster than Walmart had predicted and the delivery people were kind enough to put everything in my garage. Regarding delivery, site to store is not available for items over 350 lbs; however, a friend of mine told me that she had them separate each box into a separate shipment and was able to get site to store delivery and save the $200. I don't know details because I had already purchased my set and didn't really want to hear how she saved $200 and I didn't ; ). Something you might want to investigate. If you can save the $200 shipping, this set is an EXCEPTIONAL deal.
After much 'analysis paralysis' on a playset purchase for my 3 kids - I decided on this one. The price was right for the quality. It was made of cedar which was my preference as was the A-frame design - I thought it would be easier to assemble - than 'square fort' - and level in our very unlevel yard! We reviewed the components and parts to ensure we had all the pieces - everything was there. It went up easily and we were abnoxiously grateful for the 'self leveling' swing beam! Two of the boards were split, more than I would like - so I will follow up with Gorilla on this. For the money - I think the quality is great - it has lots of activities for my kids - 3, 4, and 7 and they are truly enjoying it. Another reason why its great is that it only takes up physical space of 12x15 feet. I was pleasantly surprised with its compactness!
We searched (and searched) the internet and some play-set showrooms before deciding on this set for our children (ages 3 and 4 1/2)and we could not be more pleased! For the price, we feel we received a high quality set that will last for years. The wood is thick and strong, very heavy set. It has so much for the kids to play on: the tire swing is great and not all sets have them. We purchased add-ons (A glider swing & half-bucket swing, because our kids are smaller.) We figure the kids will use the trapeze when they get bigger and we have the 2nd belt swing for when our younger child grows out of the bucket swing. This is a set they will not outgrow too soon. Although it has been up for less than 24 hours it has already been in use for a few hours and I know the kids will use it every day, weather-permitting. Assembly: 2 of us (non-handy people, while watching our kids) and a 3rd very handy person had it done in the course of a day (under 12 hours.) It could be done in less time if not watching the little ones :-) TIPS:1)Inventory your hardware and parts 2) Inventory and check all lumber. We sorted the lumber and labeled each stack of like items, or singles with post-it notes & sharpie--it really helped 3) Have the right tools: an impact wrench is ESSENTIAL--I can not imagine trying to do this with a manual , the wood is very thick! Also, a strong/impact drill is beneficial. We had a weaker drill to drive in the wood screws and would need to pre-drill pilot holes, but with the impact drill we powered through and it really saved time. 4) Read the instructions:(Obviously, I know, but so important)Take the time to read through all of the steps briefly beforehand and then read each step all the way through before starting that step. The instructions --for the most part--are clear, well-written and easy to follow.
