5 STARS. Purchased a GW PRO 80V cordless leaf blower with the charger & (2) batteries. I am changing over my gas and corded tools to the GW multi tool 80V PRO system for my lawn/yard care. The 80V lawn edger is an amazing tool with plenty of power and precise control. I am pleased with the performance of the GW PRO 80V series. I am still waiting for the 80V cordless push mower which has been back ordered for some time to complete my GW lawn care collection.
I have a few tools from the 80v line. The edger was essential for me because of all the sidewalks and areas that I have that need to be edged out. I find this tool to be very sturdy and easy to use. It's light weight and battery life is great. I have over 1/2 an acre and allot of area to edge up. I did it all without denying the battery. Having a metal blade and a wheel to assist with depth and mobility is essential and makes the job easy.
I purchased the 80V Cordless 8" brushless edger to go with my other Greenworks 80V lawn care items (mower, trimmer, and leaf blower). The edger has more power than expected, performs flawlessly and is easy to use, clean and store. I use it to edge our front and side yards along the sidewalk and curb and it does the job perfectly. The quality and performance of all of the Greenworks products I have purchased have far exceeded my expectations. The Quality is exceptional, battery life is incredible and performance is as good if not better than any gas powered equipment I've owned in the past without the mess, maintenance and noise that comes with gas equipment.
I have no prior experience with an edger and have a lawn that was in real need of one. So, it was difficult to line up the tool without hitting the drive or path and generating a lot of sparks. The toll also requires you to lean over so it's not ergonomic or comfortable to use. Again, if you know what you're doing maybe it's easier! It certainly has cutting power and spins up fast, so hopefully I'll figure it out in time!
This edger is a solid option for straight or flat lawns, and a much better alternative to a trimmer or 2-in-1. Got this 80v because we already owned the mower and battery (love). I can edge the entire lawn with about 75% of the battery capacity. It works nicely to mow, trim the beds while battery charges, and then finish with the edger before cleanup. A few of noteworthy things: - I intentionally attached the hand grip on at a 90° because it was easier to hold as a tall person (6'3"). - This edger is HUGE, even for me. It's a little top heavy with the battery in, but not unmanageable. But it can be very awkward to hold sometimes. - You can only edge while standing on the left (the blade is on the right). If you have objects in the way, it will be harder to manage. - The edger works best when you go forward—and then pull it backwards to trench some more (if you don't have a good one already). - It's ok if it grazes concrete, but don't let it be completely interrupted or else you might seriously damage the motor. If your sidewalk is uneven, I would recommend drawing a straight edge based on the innermost concrete tile. It will look a little awkward, but it will keep you from having a jagged line or throwing away a few hundred dollars.
