I purchased this last year during the hottest months. At first it worked fine for a week, then it began to freeze up. I didn't keep my sales receipt, my fault, or I would have returned this product immediately. It's a waste of money. It might just be me or that I have bad luck, but when an A/C begins to freeze brand new out of the box in one weeks time there is a serious problem.
Bought this unit and installed it as directed. It ran nice for about three weeks and then the electronic control panel went into error mode. Now it sits at 88 and nothing works at all on it. I looked on line at what this problem was and it appears that a lot of other people have had similiar problems. Not worth it to but this as it is a disposable unit and I will never buy another Haier built product.
I really like this air conditioner. It is quiet and cools the living room of my trailer. If anyone has ever lived in a trailer during the summer, they would know how hot a traile can be without an air conditioner. I really love this one and plan to buy another one soon.
There really isn't any better comment about this 8000 BTU unit other than "disappointing"! The design is weak, the construction is minimalist, the features are all but deceptive, and the entire unit has failed to meet my modest expectations! I was going to say it's not the worst A/C unit I ever bought, but I guess it really IS the worst I ever bought! But to be honest, it could be worse (I guess). It DOES cool (somewhat), but it can't keep up with the 10 year old Whirlpool unit (also 8000 BTU) that this new Haier was supposed to replace. The Haier blows around 60 to 65 degree air on a hot day (2 different spring type thermometers placed on the directional vents). My old Whirlpool easily blows out 52 degree air on that same day and conditions! Night-time tests proved similar results. The Haier IS LOUD. The main problem is the speed ranges from high, to a little higher, to highest - not low, medium and high. And I can't see that the "Dehumidifier" setting is doing anything at all! Sure, I live in Houston where the humidity can be deadly, but after several days of comparing the "Cool" and "Dehumifier" settings no one can tell any difference. The "directional" vents are useless - the air shoots one way, and that's that! It would be easy to go on and on explaining various aspects of this unit that are poorly designed and constructed and barely functional, but the point is - it's a huge disappointment! Even the remote is made of the most flimsy, thin and proven troublesome materials (membrane switches!), and it only works when pointed directly at the unit and from a reasonably close distance. Think bargain bin at the dollar store! Finally I have to mention the fact that the unit was shipped double-boxed and insulated (nice!), but the unit arrived with several dents to the metal case and side vent fins, even though the two boxes were in fine shape. This tells me - it left the factory that way - a bad omen indeed!
The 8,000 BTU Haier Window Air Conditioner is a great bargain for the money. After purchasing one unit, I was very satisfied with it's cooling capacity and how quiet it was, I went out and immediately bought a second unit. The price for this item was very competitive and I'm glad I made this choice.
