I, we like the product but was miss 6 skupper plugs for them that were not shipped and one was kinda damaged with a pretty good dent in it afraid of future use may cause problems, had shipping problem from start not able to track shipping , feel as if problem of plugs should at least be taken care of , that two of the products we received
Kayak is comfortable and easy to maneuver. Not fast, flat bottom, very stable in flat water. Great for fishing and relaxing kayaking. Not designed for river running. Lots of room for gear and medium size dog or kid. Back rest, paddle, carry sling, and storage hanging wall pegs included. Easy to double stack, and not hard to carry from truck to water. Lots of bang for your buck.
Not much in the way of frills but the kayak seems solidly made of essentially the same material as the $1000 big name sit on top kayaks. The built in seat back is surprisingly comfortable and it is nice that it folds flat out of the way when being stored. The boat is stable and tracks well for its size. I like the fact that is only about 40 pounds and is pretty easy to move around. I also like the flat back for standing it up against a wall for storage. The paddle is very basic but what do you expect for this price and it does what it needs to do. This kayak will fill itself with water if left upside down for a significant period. Even the seat back has a small hole that will let water in. Not that it was intended to be used that way, but kids will be kids. I drained all the water and smeared clear silicone caulk around all the rivets and in the seat hole. Used it upright for about an hour and it stayed totally dry inside.
Well, it was an even better value when I purchased two of these kayaks a couple of weeks ago. I just went to the website to look at the description again and the price has gone up $20. Still a good deal, though. As others have mentioned, the decription/pictures are a little confusing. The picture of the kayak with the BLACK backrest is the one you will get, along with a paddle, 3 scupper plugs and carry strap. There is NO watertight storage compartment in the back of the backrest as shown on some pictures with a yellow backrest. I do wish that I had that feature, but I take a collapsible cooler with me and tuck items inside that I want to keep safe from water splashes. I also purchased a small completely watertight bag for $15 at Dick's Sporting Goods that I put my cell phone and car keys in to keep them extra safe. We have used the kayaks quite a few times already and have REALLY enjoyed them. I strapped them to the roof of my SUV once, but now have found it much easier to just fold down the back seats and throw them in the back with an old blanket. They extend about one foot beyond the end of my vehicle (Hyundai Santa Fe), but I just strap the tailgate closed as the lake I go to is only 5 miles away. I also purchased an 8 pound rubber coated dumbell weight and rope and made an "anchor" which is clipped to the front end and sits nicely in the last footrest area when not in use. I enjoy paddling out and just enjoying nature while reading a book and having a picnic lunch on board without drifting around. Super cool way to spend a couple of hours and get a great tan. The backrest is adjustable so you can sit up while paddling and then recline if you are just reading like I do. Also has a molded cupholder between the leg area to hold a water bottle. The back storage area has plenty of room to hold a 24 can soft sided cooler for food, sunscreen, book or whatever else you bring along. The bungee cords work perfect for storing the lifejackets when not in use. This is a great kayak for beginners, which is what I am. I chose a sit-on-top model because I enjoy the sunshine and didn't want to be trapped inside a cockpit. I am a 5'10" female and have plenty of room for my legs. It is very easy to maneuver on the water, but a little more difficult on land especially if you don't have a second person to help. It is lightweight, but could be improved with better handles or grip areas to carry it when alone. The one interior grip is functional but a molded cut out handle as shown on the model with the yellow backrest would be better - that is really my only complaint. It does come with a carry strap, but I only have to carry the kayak a few feet to the water when unloading. The straps would be necessary if you had to carry the kayaks a long distance to water, but it looked like it would take a bit of time to attach them. I might use them to store the kayaks on the wall in my garage, as metal brackets are priced at about $30/set. Still investigating my options. Overall, I couldn't have made a better purchase for the money. Looking forward to using them for years to come.
I bought this for my 11 year old son. He took it out for the first time last night and loved it! Lots of room in the back for a cooler, etc. He was also able to put his fishing pole in one of the holes and it fit nicely. I would highly recommend this Kayak!
