The only trouble with this item is that the loom itself was too soft and easily breakable. It should have been made of wood or tougher plastic. It was a good CHEAP gift, but disappointed with quality of the loom. The idea and other items in the box is good.
A great gift for this time of year. I'm giving this to one of our summer flood victims. She'll have a gift to receive. A fun time with me making the pot holders. And finally a gift to give her mother on her January birthday to have the first pieces to decorate her previously flooded kitchen. Thank you Walmart for having this on the Spark reviewer program.

I had one of these when I was little girl and I loved it so I wanted to get this for my five year old daughter. She absolutely loved it. It is a little hard for little fingers to weave through the rows of stretchy band material. But I just used the hook that came with it and weaved it through first then hooked a piece of stretch material on the hook end then slowly pulled the stretchy band material through then hooked both ends to the weave device. This was the best way for us to do it. Even though as you get closer to the bottom to finish it becomes tighter and harder to do. My five year old could not do it but she did most of it by herself. The first one she did not do alot of since we had not figured this way out yet. She struggled weaving it with hook and with her little hands. And eventually gave up very early in the project. While I was finishing it I was trying other ways to make it easier for her. And weaving it first with the hook then pulling stretchy band material was the easiest and best way for her. She has made two now and really enjoys it. I do have to finish the end part. The first one I wasn't putting the material back on weaving device and the thing popped off when I got to last row. This made it very difficult to finish. So hook some loops back on to make it easier. Other than it was fun and easy and I was glad to share a childhood favorite with my daughter.
Having grown up using a weaving loom and having one for my own children, I was excited to find that my grandchildren will still be able to enjoy this activity as well. The loom and weaving hook are made out of heavy plastic. They seem to be fairly durable and able to withstand the sometimes rough treatment that some children might put them through. The instructions are well written and easily understood by children especially with the aid of a few clear pictures by each step. The box states it is for ages 5+ and with adult help most 5 year olds would be able to do the weaving although someone older would probably have to finish the edge. The colors of the loops are bright and appealing. Because children get to choose their own combination or follow suggestions is a real perk for those who are very independent as well as those who need more direction. I was disappointed that the loops are not all cotton. They are a polyester or blend of some sort that will not make a very sturdy potholder for everyday use. On the whole I would highly recommend this kit to encourage a child's creativity in addition to their generosity when they use their end product as a gift.
