I had both a Yamaha A/V receiver for movies and a stand alone vintage receiver for music, I wanted to consolidate down to one receiver that could not only perform well with surround sound, but quality music as well. When I purchased the Marantz all that changed, one unit did it all, my Bowers and Wilkins never sounded so good when playing music, let alone the amazing surround sound with movies. My only regret was wasting so much money on other equipment and not making the purchase sooner and getting the Marantz. Absolutely love the flexibility the Marantz offers for expanding my current system cir future upgrades and additions.
First Marantz product and I am extremely pleased with my purchase. I have this receiver paired with SVS Prime Tower surround system with dual SB-2000 pro subs and it sounds amazing! I upgraded from a Yamaha HTIB receiver and the difference in sound is night and day. The speakers have more detail and dynamics. I was told Marantz has a signature sound and I am definitely liking the sound.
Wow, I thought my previous receiver was great -- and it honestly was. But THIS receiver sounds amazing. The sound is "bigger" (not confusing with louder) in its soundstage and smoother in its tone character. It finally seems to deliver the sound promised by my Monitor Audio Silver towers. Very, very happy!
Overall it works great, in most cases it's a simple plug and play. Sound is excellent with good speakers. (So don't blame the receiver if you have cheap speaker). Easy to hook-up and set-up.
Of coarse in upgrading from a Denon AVR1600 to the Marantz SR5015 im going to say this reciever is awesome and well...it is. I've yet to push it to hear its potential but have heard a vast improvement of sound quality coming out of my Focal Chora 806's. Normally would have never spent this much for a receiver but am very happy i did, so worth it!
