This has blown away many expectations. Split way more wood than if I split with a maul. I did blow a gasket so now only have 1 arm that works. Need to find a way to fix the gasket, which is why I'm on the website now. But cannot seem to find the help I need. Bought it several years ago now. Way past the warranty date. The pic shows the large pile before it was split. I split 90% of it in about 6 hours.
I think this thing is awesome. I never had to split logs before and was uneducated as to what equipment to get. I bought this because I have other Sun Joe items and Wal-Mart had best price. Box was a bit beat up when arrived, but splitter undamaged. It's much bigger than I expected and heavier than expected. This is how I use it for least amount of effort. Put log in move both arms till it's snug, then move only left arm til it's tight and hard to move, then move right arm, because it's still loose and it will crack the log in a few more clicks. The log makes a terrible cracking noise when it goes. And if the arms are too hard to push, use other arm or you are jammed some how. Done this. Was easy to remove log. Fatter logs are of course harder to split. Make sure to keep pushing arms after initial crack to split log completely in half. After a few logs, you'll have your own system figured out. If you have to split a small amount of wood or need a manual one for backup plans, I recommend. And my 70 year old mom uses it! No kidding.
I was a little apprehensive about buying even after reading other positive reviews about the Sun Joe Log Splitter. But after splitting the first log with relative ease I moved on to larger logs and had the same outcome. The line I kept using was 'if it fits, it will split!!'
I bought this for my husband for Christmas. He is 66 and loves to split wood as a pastime in the winter. I warned him about cutting length max 18" and rounded ends that cause so he would be forewarned as he hates reading instructions. Works great! He is very happy with the way it works and is safer then using the axe as the seasoned oak is hard to split. He is very pleased with it. I have split some would with it as well and I'm 69 wood split easily.
I LOVE my SunJoe logsplitter. I am 69 yrs old, female. I had a bunch of tree logs that were too big for my fireplace. I decided to invest my money in my own logsplitter rather than pay someone to split it for me. Also, I couldn’t find anyone who could do that for me. So, I bought this amazing ligsplitter. It is easy to use, no set up necessary. I can split my logs easily now, whenever I want. I love it. Easy to store also. I highly recommend it, especially for women who want to be self-sufficient! I have 1 suggestion, however. The hole where you pour in the hydraulic fluid was painted green, indistinguishable from the body of the ram. I finally figured out how to open the plug, but I still haven’t poured in the fluid yet. I hope that will be easy once I try. But, if you need a logsplitter, get this one. No gas, no electricity, just a little effort - and tada! Split logs!
