Barrel stoves work great. They must be on a fireproof hearth. Leave the ashes in the stove- this insulates the floor by keeping the heat from going down ward. Rake hot coals forward, add more wood and it burns front to back. Get the air tight model. We hope Lehmans will re introduce the famous Sotz barrel stoves that were made in Ohio. I still have one 40 years old.

Barrel stoves like this work just fine in an outdoor shed or barn with a dirt floor, with nothing flammable underneath or around them, with plenty of space between the walls and the ceiling of a building. These stoves can get rippingly hot, and without adequate heat protection underneath and all around such a stove these stoves could easily light a house on fire. Picture a floor catching on fire, for instance. Yeah, these kinds of stoves can do just that. These stoves ARE NOT for amateur wood burners. Yes, be careful, be very, very careful!

Well, worth the money. This kit comes with everything you need to create your barrel stove. I opted for both the barrel stove kit and the second barrel kit. Went together without a problem and by having the second barrel, I have twice the heating surface. Although most of our winter is gone, I fired up the wood burner the other day in my wood shop and within about 20 minutes my shop was at a toasty temp on a near freezing morning outside. I highly recommend this stove and the stack kit for it.

Used this to build a smoker. Good quality heavy steel construction. Came with everything I needed. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because the legs could have followed the contours of the barrel a lot better. Had to use a grinder to get them to sit flush against barrel.

I was searching for a heater for my shop and found this kit many places. It looked good on the site and the price was right but after buying it and returning home I noticed that the prodoct in the box was not the product pictured that made me want it. There is no handle on the door latch as shown in product photo and the face has been completely changed. The dampener rod pops off when you try to open or close it also. I will make the handle and some modifications on the dampener to fix the issues but it is falsely advertised as to what it is.
