Does the job. A little strange that it uses two usbs for power but it's a great solution to not having an optical drive and cheap for a burner.
Thus far - using two days - Very Pleased. -Works as portrayed. -Enjoying using it

I had almost this same model (down to the "diamond-cut" finish) from a decade ago. USB "B" printer connector is now a Mini-USB. (Micro-USB is more common, but no matter: They provide the cable.) Initially, both a WinXP and a modern PC sometimes failed to recognize the drive. Key is to connect that extra line to a USB power supply; now recognized every time by both. (The manual tells you this.)
I have it ready to use when the need arises. It sits on my file cabinet in the box until that moment comes. Otherwise, why wait to buy one. Now I am prepared for a future need.
As my new Asus laptop didn't have a DVD drive, I bought this unit as it was the same brand of my laptop and the price was very attractive. Works as expected.
Good device but a little slow on commands. Speed is an issue .
The first couple months of use were average at best. More often than not the device begins the CD burn process, then within seconds it stops, and reports an internal error. That renders the CD worthless. I've trashed well over 40 blank CD's during this time.
Not happy with ASUS. Bought a DVD-RW player and it worked briefly, then quit. I've tried to install new driver, but can't. I've been in contact with ASUS support, the CEO no less and they have no idea. I think I'll stay away from ASUS products. NealGC
