It says for use with tables only. I suspect the people giving the bad reviews are trying to use this alone to hold their umbrellas.
It's a decent base if you're on a budget.
there is nothing to keep it from coming out of the stand in slight wind. this item ruined my umbrella when a slight wind kicked up and pulled it out of the base. I ended up with one of the metal pieces busted. when the wind finally blew it off my roof the fabric was torn... you are better off with a base stand that has screws to hold in place. Also my umbrella wouldn't stay straight and I don't want you having issues like I did

I bought this product because it was the only one available and I needed a stand to put with my new umbrella table set. It's horrible. Not even worth a dollar. The base has plastic parts that are supposed to lock in place. They snapped the first time I put the umbrella in. What a waste
It just doesn't work; even filled with water. I can't leave the backyard and leave my umbrella open (or closed for that matter) because when the wind blows it makes the umbrella lean to one side or another. I know the price is tempting but just spend the extra money and buy a heavier one with a screw to keep it in place.
Doesn't even hold a small umbrella! This was all they had! We threw it away in the recycling
had I seen the reviews before purchase I would not have bought. I'm big on reviews. went to my local store and they had an umbrella on display. was sent to garden center where I found the one (color) I wanted and grabbed a base since it dis not come with one. DOES not hold umbrella.
Horrible! This does not hold the umbrella at all. 10 minutes after I purchased everything and put it together, the slightest gust of wind lifted my umbrella out of the base and broke! my brand new umbrella broken in 20 minutes. this base is trash!
