These are perfect to pack in mylar bags for camping trips or just use in soups etc.
Didn't really think that these could be actually mailed to my house, that was really impressive. Though they can't be mailed to your P. O. BOX and some people in Alaska don't have an address besides a P. O. Box as they live out of range for a regular Street address.
I really like dehydrated potatoes. They're easy to rehydrate and IMO are just as good for cooking as fresh potatoes. These are a good size and have a good flavor. My favorite use is hash browns. I think they have less starch than fresh potatoes so they crisp up better and aren't as sticky. I use these in baking, in soups and stews and of course, hash browns. They've been great every way I've tried them.
I was excited to find dehydrated potatoes at such a good price. My bucket was delivered very quickly and I immediately opened the bucket to inspect my spuds. While the contents were indeed settled, the weight was exactly as stated. The first recipe I used the potatoes for was a white bean and potato soup. The potatoes re-hydrated just as I expected and the soup was a grand success. I will definitely order these potatoes from Sam's again!
Helped round out food preps good quality and great value.
Practical staple that should be in good supply in all households. Real men eat potatoes..........................
Bought for storage. It will come in handy when all breaks loose
We use the potato dices regularly Unfortunately the dices are no longer carried in store. & I cannot order either the #10 cans nor the 5 gallon pail on the website. i would rather order on the walmart website vs the augason site, to save the shipping costs. its cheaper thru walmart
I highly recommend this product for your food storage. The other review about the bucket not being full is accurate. Though a full bucket would cost more, it would maximize my storage space and allow me to buy fewer buckets. I was expecting potato cubes like what you find in soups. I was wrong. The product is called Potato Dices for a reason. They are dices. Once reconstituted, the dices are 3/16 inch squares that are only 1/8 inch thick. The smaller size allows fast reconstitution and quick cooking. Cover one cup of dices with 3 cups boiling water and let sit for 20 minutes. Once reconstituted, they make GREAT hashbrowns, hash, potpies, soups, casseroles,..etc.
I thought I was getting a pretty good deal until I got them and the bucket is only half full. Seriously, that is no exageration. Look at the picture, the potatoes are filled about to the red line in the middle of the label. The excuse is that it is sold by weight, not by volume. For space reasons, I would much rather pay more and have a bucket that is full. The other buckets I have bought have been full, whats up with this one?? :(
