Self-righting technology Dyson Big Ball canister vacuums are monostatic: they have a single stable resting point. Dyson engineers made this possible using a complex configuration of the vacuum’s components. Overall a great vacuum -- almost performs as well as vacuums that cost twice the price or more. Strong suction - sucks everything up from my hardwood floor. With some finesse and using the "carpet trigger" it vacuums my area rugs and door mats. The suction is clearly not as powerful as my Dyson Animal Ball 2, but the suction on the Animal 2 is almost too much sometimes. And I haven't noticed this Big Ball Canister leaving any traces on the floor. The big advantage over the upright is that I can vacuum under the beds and most furniture. It takes a little getting used to the way the handle is shaped to get all the way under the beds effectively, but it can be done. It is also low-profile enough to get under most chairs and furniture, but it is too tall for some things. Ergonomics: The ball is a little heavy, but overall easy to roll around or carry. Might be a little too heavy for smaller people to carry around. I don't see that the "always stays upright" feature really helps anything, but maybe because it is so easy to maneuver. I think to make it fall over, you would really have to be jerking it around, and I wouldn't recommend banging the plastic on a Dyson off the walls like that. The biggest complaint against Dyson is the plastic housing cracking. I wish the electric cord was about 5-10 feet longer. As it is I have to change the plug one time to vacuum an entire floor of my house. So, "first world problem," but it is very convenient when in the past I've had vacuums I could do the whole floor from one plug. The wand is super easy to maneuver on the floor or in dusting mode. Its easy to change out the accessories. Overall I would highly recommend this vacuum for anyone with hard floors who doesn't want to spend an arm and a leg.
This Dyson vacuum works extremely well, especially with the suction power. The suction does not diminish as the dirt collection area fills up. The vacuum is also easy to maneuver around on carpeting. the weight of the vacuum is also fairly low, so picking it up is easy.
i have an older model of a regular Dyson. I was considering a cordless as i wanted to reduce the weight i carried. I bought the floor canister as it was in sale plus. Alll I have to carry is the wand while the canister stays put until i pull it forward. This meets my needs.
Love the vacuum! My only complaint is that when pulling it along, the ball starts to tip and roll on its side making it awkward to use. I sometimes just end up picking it up and holding while using. Other than that… wonderful! Great for stairs, hardwood floors, getting into tight spaces, and pet hair.
This vacuum does a great job. It's just too heavy to use. I wish it went from carpet to floors without pulling a button and holding it out the entire time.
Likes: good suction - picks up a lot. Attachments are easy to use and well designed. Dislikes: the construction of the dirt hopper seems cheap, and device is finicky when emptying and replacing. I doubt that the little plastic tab holding the hopper flap closed will not break soon. Good thing it comes with a 5 years parts warranty.
The suction is great but I am disappointed the "hard floor tool" doesn't have a carpet setting! It just needs to have a button that allows some brush to go up and down..That is the simplest thing, every cheap vacuum canisters come with in Europe. I am unable to understand why this doesn't have. On hard floor, it is great of course.
As I said. I love its appearance! But it first hard to store, second dust container is too easy to open. I dumped all dust on the floor few times while I took it off from the vacuum. It just opened entirely right after I take it out. And everything time I have to take everything apart in order to set them down and store somewhere nicely
The ball is heavy and hurtful to drag behind.
The vacuum is not well made . I have had it now 2 months . The power nozzle has a gasket going across the bottom, so you dont scratch the floor it fell off and got tangled in the nozzle. when removing the canister to empty, it is releasing its contents onto floor. It does have good suction . I contacted Dyson and the only solution was to send to a repair center and see if repairs are covered under warranty.
