I needed a solution for feeding the small birds. The doves and jays were overwhelming them and running them off at our ground feeder. So, I picked this up based primarily on how it looked since I was planning to hang it in my front yard. I liked its simple elegance. I've seen several small birds perched on it at the same time eating. And, I've seen a larger bird on it, too - just not for long. As mine hangs rather close to the ground, "our" squirrel decided to have a try at it this morning; he was close to succeeding, but he did not. I think he'll find it easier to eat out of the ground feeder. I just wish there were a way to shorten the cord from which it hangs. Overall, I am quite pleased with it thus far - and so are my small feathered friends.
This feeder is really pretty but is NOT functional!! I didn't realize it until I saw my birds trying to land on the "perch" of it to feed. There was not enough room. The "perch" part of it at the bottom extends VERY little making it very difficult for even the smaller birds to perch. The cardinals couldn't even land without bumping into the glass. I returned it for a refund and was quite disappointed to have to do so. If the manufacturer would only make the perch much wider then this feeder would be a winner! As is, I don't recommend it.
pull string doesn't work properly! seeds everywhere and squirrels in them hanging all over...DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! i have hundreds of birds a day and a rescuer...this product stinks!
Does anyone test these products? The birds can not even perch on this to get the seed out. So I jury-rigged some dowels onto it they can at least land on it. That seemed to do well for the birds to have a landing spot. But the seed level is not going down at any noticeable rate. I can only assume the birds are having way too much trouble getting the seed out. I think I maybe able to re-purpose this as a lantern if or add a tea light or candle to it. Bottom line - worst feeder we have aver owned. Nice looking though!
