Great board game for large groups. We used it during our Memorial Day cookout and everyone loved, children and adults. The concept of building a village is exciting and different. The concept is easy to understand and play.
Strategy games can be overwhelming to the uninitiated (read: me), and I avoided this one as guilty by association. Now that we do have it and have played it, I realize it's not at all overwhelming. We really enjoyed it and think it will get more fun the more we play. I really REALLY like that expansion/extension play options are already included for when we are ready for that.
Carcassonne is a game that combines skill and luck. It is an excellent table game for 3-5 people. It is well made game and we even took it to the beach for a game night at sunset. You can view instructional videos online and once you catch on, it is easy and you won't want to stop. I do recommend it
This game is fun for all ages. It was pretty easy to learn and you can add additional rules/ scoring strategies to increase the difficulty. My 7 year old had just as much fun as my 60 year old mother-in-law! It's a great strategy game that will keep your brain sharp while letting you and the family have fun along the way!
I got the chance to showcase Carcassonne to my friends, and it was such a hit, I brought it out to another game night, then played it again a third night. People can't get enough of the approachability of the game play. The rules are simple but belies a depth to the strategy needed. Each player takes turns drawing and placing a tile, then deciding to place a meeple (meatball) on that tile. Will you aim for quick points by building small cities and short roads, or will you invest in the long game for a massive upset with your farm? Seriously a fun and relaxing game to play, be it 2 player or 5. I love how Carcassonne doesn't require your focused attention until it's actually your turn. This allows for very relaxed and casual gameplay, where you can enjoy a drink and chat with your friends while waiting for your turn. The artwork is pleasant, and there's a silly thrill in pointing out to an opponent that, no, they can't place their farmer there cause, as you see, my farm goes all around the river here, skirts this little village here, and right to the greenspace of your tile right there. I got the abbot and river mini expansion in the base game, but look forward to adding in the other expansions in the very near future.
Tip: watch the interactive rules! They are much clearer than the written rules. We played wrong for the first two games, until we watched the interactive rules. It was a minor scenario, but made a big difference. The game was much more enjoyable after we got that straight. The game pieces are of high quality; the gameplay is simple, with a solid combination of luck and skill. If you've never played before, you should try it! For 3-5 people, it is so much fun, and easy to learn. It plays quickly, too, with a very set stop time. We look forward to trying the variations, too (ours came with 2 mini expansions plus one more variable)
Our autistic son loves this game. It's different every single time and doesn't take long to play. It's worth it at full price but the fact that it's on sale makes it even better. Our granddaughters who are 9 like it as well and play with my son several times per week. So enjoyable for many ages.
Fun for kids and adults. The game is different every time you play, because you build the board piece by piece. Some strategy, some luck-of-the-draw, lots of fun!
We had the kids play a round and then did some with just my daughter and I - both groups were super fun! It is a lengthy game, so great for people who have an attention span. Finding ways to make longer roads/bigger cities/monasteries/ect is very exciting. The quality of the pieces is great and it's very satisfying seeing the landscape come together.
Ordered and now received a replacement for the original... Both copies feature tiles that are extremely misaligned making gameplay confusing and frustrating at times. Clearly this isn't WalMart's fault and it looks like they may have gotten a bad batch from the publisher. Who knows how many copies are affected but I'd avoid ordering this game from WalMart for the foreseeable future. Maybe that's why it's at such a low price!
