Originally purchased for emergencies, I tried it and the taste is so good, I have to use it daily. I initially received it damaged but Walmart customer service sent me a replacement. In all, a very good product full of tomato flavor!
This is an excellent product. Makes the best tomato soup, and marinara sauce. Gives an extra boost to many dishes.
This is a wonderful product. I always have some open in my kitchen. I am a 68 year old homemaker and consider this a staple for my kitchen. It can get very hard when exposed to air. I place the contents of the can in a container with a good tight cover then I add a large desiccant. It will stay soft and fresh for a very long time. I add tomato powder to graves and soups and I use it to make tomato sauce, paste and juice for cooking. If it does get hard on you.add water to make a paste. Cover a cookie sheet with plastic wrap and drop the paste by tablespoons on the plastic. Freeze the paste. When frozen, wrap each drop in plastic wrap and store in the freezer.
I purchased this tomato product for emergencies. It can be used to make spaghetti sauce, pizza sauce as well as tomato soup by adding garlic and basil. To make a seafood bisque you would also add some powdered milk , Pampa Seafood Cocktail ( a dollar a can from the dollar store ) and possibly some canned salmon or chopped clams.
Tomato powder is wonderful. So glad I discovered it! I put it on many things, salads, sandwiches, soups and meat rubs to name just a few. Packaged to store long term, it doesn't last that long in my house though. I think everybody should try this product. It really should be sold in the smaller jars in the spice section. Good grief. This is NOT AN ENGINEERED food to last long term. No food is. You can make tomato powder yourself from any tomatoes, including organic to last just as long.. Just dry the sliced tomatoes and then put in the food processor. Put in a sterilized jar or Mylar bag. Add an oxygen absorber and seal shut. Oxygen absorbers removes ALL air from the food container. Without air, the food is in a state of suspension and will not go bad. Please research before spouting off. This is in fact one of the best ways to store healthy foods that you grow yourself. Check YouTube for additional information.
i don't know who thought about turning tomatoes into a powder, but it was a genius idea with many applications where using a raw tomato isn't efficient! great product at a reasonable price!
Excellent product. I come from a country where tomato paste is a staple in cooking. I wish I knew about this product earlier; would have saved me a lot of headaches when fresh tomatoes are priced out of this world. This comes really handy. I mistakenly mixed more than enough and had to freeze the leftovers, and they're still as good as when I missed it. Tastes great too! Salute! Cin cin!
It makes great tomato sauce/paste! However, as of this writing 9/15/17, the product is NOT 64 oz. It's only 49 oz. So if you're purchasing based on price per calorie, etc, be aware of this. I did contact Walmart customer service to notify them of the discrepancy and they reimbursed me the difference plus which was very nice of them.
Discription said "NO additives or perservatives" but the label said " contains less than 2% silicone dioxide" also the description said its 64oz (4 lbs) but the label says "3lbs 9 oz " (57 oz )
