Well, maybe not SkyNet, but the integrated feature of letting me know if an Escort in front of me has alerted takes this model way beyond what my Escort 9500i could do. This is my 4th Escort product and may be my last as I don’t know how they can improve on this.
My initial impressions of the R3 when I had it out testing was it falsed to much on K band no matter what setting it was on. So I got rid of that chatter box and by the way never did see a huge range on it ever. Then I got the Redline Ex and after updating it to v1.3 it has awesome K band filtering and that is something I have never seen before. It was able to filter out those annoying traffic light sensors too. I traveled 350 miles this past Sunday and it only falsed 3 times on me. It was able to do a great job at filtering and at the same time picking up the sheriff on K band shooting I/O shots at 1.7 miles away which really impressed me. It may not have as much range as others out there but at least I can run it with K band turned on without it annoying me to the point where I want to throw it out the window.?
I got this particular one because I drive through Virginia quite often and they are illegal in that state. I'll be going through there this weekend so I'll get to try it out for the first time but so far I'm loving it. It doesn't seem to go off near as much for the false alarms.
My experience with the Redline EX makes me question the motives of those writing the negative reviews. Compared to my Redline I'd say the off-axis K-band is a bit better on my Redline EX. Locally there's a "Barney Fife" type cop running constant on K-band who hides in the same spot every now and then, I'd say the Redline EX goes off just a hair earlier than my Redline. As far as KA, when I'm traveling on I-5, I'd the Redline EX seems to sometimes alert a second or two later than my Redline did, other times pretty much the same. All in all, by my experience, I'd say the performance of my Redline EX is pretty much comparable to my Redline. Love the new style magnetic mount and the feel of the Redline EX in my hand. I would buy again.
Don't believe the negative reviews! This detector does it all. I was concerned about the parking and vehicle sensor false readings but they are a non-issue. My older 9500 goes off constantly while on the interstate. The Red Line works as advertised! I just finished a 250 mile road trip in my new GTR and it worked great.
Just received mine and took it out for a test next to my previous redline. On a set K band speed radar the EX smoked my old detector by 1/8 mile!! Freedom from in car radar is absolute thus far, neither Honda nor GM seem to affect it. For the short test around my small town it seems the promises were kept. Im running it with X band completely off.
I received my Redline Ex during the second batch release (firmware 1.2). So far it has been very quite to BSM false's. Have had almost zero issues with Honda's (Acura), and a few new GMC (2 total since owning) products. Range seems to be good, however I do not have another detector to compare. I am running KA segmented with the usual recommended settings as posted on forums. My only complaint would be that I do receive Laser false's from time to time even though there is no police around. From what I have read through forums is that it could be cheap detectors that are around during the drive. But guessing at this point.
The system has a very nice construction and material quality. suction cup works great even in very hot days, the power adapter with USB connection is a plus. As far as detection goes it has had a 50% success rate in notifying me af police cars that are posted up.
ALOT NICER THAN MY FIRSDT GEN PASSPORT MAX, EVEN HAS MRCD WHICH IS NICE, HOWEVER IT PICKS UP A LOT OF FALSE MRCD BANDS. EVERY STREET PRETTY MUCH, VERY ANNOYING. HAVE TO TURN IT OFFF WHILE IN CALGARY BUT IS A MUST HAVE IF YOURE IN EDMONTON WHICH THEY USE MRCD BAND QUITE A BIT. WOULD RECOMMEND BUT TURN OFF MRCD. LOL
Well to start: The range on this thing is phenomenal. I was a K40 purist for the last 20 years... I'm crossing over. The display is flawless except, I don't understand why it gives me voltage?!? Bright, selectable colors, volume could go higher but I'll turn music down I guess. But honestly so far it does what it says, and performs as stated. I like it! I would have gotten the Redline 360C but I need a detector, and couldn't wait any longer on the backorder. I'll be ok. Thanks for an extremely well made product.
