Fish Taco Supreme

These fillet are much better than Tilapia as they are bigger, thicker, and have just a better texture and flavor, and they make a great fried or saute' blackened fish taco. Why pay $12 a pound for Mahi Mahi, or $20 for Chilean Se3a Bass, if you can get it at all, when you can pay on average $3 to $4 a pound for Swai and get excellent flavor. Better than catfish and better than tilapia in most dishes, although hard to beat fried catfish and french fries in New Orleans! I use this as a staple food for both tacos and for ramen soup adds...throw some Swai and a couple shrimp in the pot, saute them, add the water and ramen spice, then the noodles. OMG so simple for college student!!

Great fish at a great price!

I first read about this fish this year and decided to try it. It's the least expensive fish I've come across. Taste way better than tilapia (which I don't like). Much cheaper than flounder (>$10/lb). Love that they are individually wrapped. Fast and simple to cook. I usually bake it at 400 degrees for about 20-30 minutes (I like it well done). Put any kind of seasoning you're feeling in the mood for. Doesn't need gravy/sauce because it's a juicy fish. Love it with rice or a salad. Tastes so good, I eat it at least once a week.

MY sister served this fish at her house before I got there. There was a piece left when I got there . I ate it cold and it actually tasted very good. We bought some from Wal-Mart of course at a great price for the amount we got. It was easy to handle being in individual packages. Fried up some and it was some of the best fish I've had. MY grand daughter ate her share. If I had to choose this would be the only fish I'd rather buy. Win Win here

I bought this to try something different and was pleasantly surprised. The fillets are larger, thicker and milder than tilapia. It fries like catfish and bakes similar to flounder. It is always in the freezer now for a quick, healthier than beef, easy dinner.

I've never heard of Swai before. I saw the fillets sitting next to the talapia and they looked tempting. I have to say... amazing. I never would think that frozen fish could be so good. They were a buck cheaper than the talapia at that. I recommend these to anyone who likes fish. Maybe even to some who don't.

Because each fillet is individually vacuum sealed, it is so simple and quick to fix this fish. I take a frozen fillet cut one end of the packaging off then bang it against my kitchen sink, breaking it in half. I lay the 2 pieces into a dry skillet(mine is cast iron) add about 1/2 cup filtered water, put a tight fitting lid on the skillet and set the burner on low. I turn both pieces just once. In no time at all I have two pieces of poached fish that are out of this world! And it took so little time and effort. No oils added, no breading mix or batter, JUST fish! I mix up my own sauce ahead of time. I have fish in less than 5 minutes with little bother or mess. I was concerned regarding the sodium tripolyphosphate that is added to the fish to retain moisture so I called the Fishin' Company in Seattle WA. 1-877-988-3474, you'll have to leave a message#. Nice people and the company is committed to sourcing sustainable seafood. They told me Walmart could get the version of fish without this additive. I wish they would and the spokesperson said the cost was the same. I buy two packages of these fillets at a time. They stay frozen and fresh. I can't say enough good things about this fish. Although, being an Oregonian, I do love our salmon, but usually it's beyond my budget constraints. If you're looking for a nice pleasant meaty type of fish to try, this would be it. Not a strong fishy flavor, the meat is nice and solid and holds together while eating it, but try it poached!!!! Healthier and easier and really tasty. I'm sold. I'll keep buying it, but darn Walmart, bring in the version without the additive and just the fish! At least let us faithful consumers of this fish try that version!

This is a good quality fish which can be prepared different ways, is very good pan fried in butter sprinkled with cajun and pepper, served on a bed of rice. It's best not to overcook it. Price is decent, seems to be a pretty good value. But the problem we have is that the local wal mart store in Middlesboro KY never has it in stock. They always have tilapia in the shelf that is labeled for the swai.

Passing through the seafood department at Wal-Mart checking the price on fresh salmon... I noticed in the frozen seafood a fish fillet that I had never heard of before. Swai ..... I grabbed a package out of the freezer to take a better look. I was impressed nice size white fish fillets. No dark veins running down the center of the fish and each fillet was a nice portion size and they were individually wrapped. The price on a 4# bag was $10.98 so.... I decided to give Swai a try. I cooked them on my griddle with olive oil & Mrs.Dash seasoning on a fairly high heat so they would have a bit of brownness to them. They turned out perfectly. My husband hates anything that doesn't have "crust" on it so he only wanted 1 piece. My picky daughter does not like the taste or feel of fish do she asked for 1 piece. Well, bust my buttons! They both loved the fish and asked if they could have more!! It is really nice white fish, perfect sized fillets, they stay together when you cook them...... I've purchased at least 4 bags since then! Swai is a really big hit in our home. Inexpensive, good quality, great tasting ....good for you food. Try the Swai in the frozen seafood at Wal-Mart you will be glad you did!

I purchased a bag of this fish a few weeks ago and just pulled it out of freezer last night for dinner. I've never heard of Swai fish, prior to seeing it at Walmart. I coated it in olive oil, seasoned it and cooked it on my Foreman grill. OMG, this is absolutely THE BEST fish I've ever tasted. I honestly dont like seafood and purchased simply in an effort to eat healthier. This fish has NO FISH TASTE/SMELL AT ALL, no bones and is very meaty. I highly recommend for especially those who have a dislike for seafood ~ this tastes like no other and will definitely be in my dinner rotation.

This is as good a fish filet as I've ever had in any restaurant, it's perfect for fish taco's or a fish sandwich or any way you'd like to prepare it, super easy and delicious , not fishy at all, I eat at least 1 a week, they are individually wrapped and deboned, you can't go wrong with these fillets from freezer to oven and done in 20 mins, love it.
