It is quieter than my last shredder. I like the fact that the motor continues to run for a few seconds after the document has been shredded. This insures that residual cutup pieces will be cleared from the cutting head. There is a master switch on the left rear side of the cutting heating head as you face the shredder. It really needs to be "ON" (red light lit) if you want to reduce a document to strips.
Seems to work fine and I have had no problems so far. Was very disappointed to open the shipping box and see the packaging box showing a white shredder. I was hoping that didn't mean I didn't get the black one that I ordered that matches all the rest of my office equipment. That is exactly what it meant.
