This has been an excellent time to rate an air conditioner and we were pleased to give this one a good rating. Can't wait to test the heater. To be honest the downside is the dehumidifier. It leaves room for improvement. The plug is too close to the floor and is is very hard to empty into a tray for emptying.
This air/heat conditioner works great in my husbands truck. Although it is a little bigger than we planned, it works great so he does not have to idle his truck. Right now he is using the air. We will have to wait to try out the heat.
Order process was easy, delivery to store was quick and pick-up was easy. Instructions for installing are very poor; do not cover normally essential information and are self-contradicting. Was able to install and unit works great. Operates as advertised. Cools a large enclosed porch. No opportunity to check heating yet but expect it will be fine.
Installed in my 38foot trailer I use as a getaway. It cools well. Does not get to the back bedroom (90 degree). Keeps the living room cool and dry. The drain thing is inconvenient. But i rigged a way to empty the water. could not get the plastic holders to stay in the window, but duck taped it all around. that works. the window kit was helpful to cover the remaining part of the window. I like the unit. can hardly wait to try the heat in the off season. for the price, it is just what i needed and could affird.
We bought this to heat and cool a room above our garage which we finally finished. It was an economical way to service a room which gets used in a variety of ways, a bedroom, study, storage, etc. It is louder than a window AC, but not annoying
I've had my unit for about three years as of this review. The unit cools well although I've never been satisfied with the heat settings so I just use small electric heaters in the winter. The unit requires fresh air to operate so you will have to drill two 4" diameter holes in your walls.
Purchased product beginning of June 2009 it is now Mid to late October 2009 and didn't turn on for 6 weeks in June/July while on vacation and product no longer works....you do the math....a little over $100 per month...I don't see the value
Our old window A/C went kaput and we decided to get a portable with AC and Heat. Did some Googling and saw this unit was available at Walmart on-line for a good price with free shipping to the store. The ordering and delivery was flawless and we got an e-mail for pickup within a few days. GREAT JOB WALMART! When we went to pick it up, we noticed that the outside, plain cardboard shipping box looked a bit battered. Asked the associate to cut open the box so we could inspect the actual item box to insure it was a new unit and wasn't damaged. The inside box, that was the original box that contained the unit, was dented and torn on one corner, but looked OK and was wrapped in bubble wrap; so we took the unit home. We let the unit sit for 24 hours, as per instructions, before installing the window vent kit and turning it on. When we turned it on, it appeared to work OK and the air coming out was "cool." I, personally, didn't think it did a good job of cooling and I measured the air coming out of the unit just around 70 degrees. The outside temps were pretty hot (98), so I gave the unit the benefit of the doubt. Over the next couple of days, even though the unit was properly vented/installed per directions and inside a closed room smaller than the 12,000 BTU unit was meant to cool, the room never got any cooler than 84-degrees--even at night, it just continued to run and run never reaching the 78-degrees we set. Our old, cheaper, smaller window air conditioner was far superior to this unit, cycled on and off as the room cooled to the 78-degree setting, and lasted for 5 long-hot Florida summers before giving up the ghost. In less than a week, we've had enough of this unit and packed it up and took it back to the store where we picked it up. Again, kudos to Walmart for the easy return policy! I would have LOVED for this unit to work, but there is no way I would have been able to accept paying close to $500 for this sub-standard performance.
