I inherited a Holmes Cool Mist Humidifier Tower from a past house mate, but when I dropped the water canister and got a hole in the top, it stopped working so I wanted to buy another. I have a wood stove which means a humidifier is essential to keep the air breathable and keep the plants from dying. I've had other humidifiers in the past, but this model is the best. It is light and convenient, easy to fill, easy to purchase and insert filters, and just all around user friendly.
We own several cool mist humidifiers and this one has become our favorite. Because it is tall, it takes up relatively little floor space, and the controls can be reached without bending down as far as for others. The key feature, though, is that the lowest fan setting is low enough to maintain a consistent level of humidity while operating 2-3 days without refilling. The tank is relatively easy to handle. It's too tall to fit in a bathroom sink, but fits under the tub faucet. Especially on lowest setting, it's more quiet than any other cool mist model. We bought 2 about 5 years ago. We didn't want warm mist ones in our babies room. They have different speeds to choose from and are great for making white noise. We had to replace one this year because one of the tanks developed a crack and you can't buy just the tank. That would be it's only downfall.
The Holmes Cool Mist Humidifier Tower with Digital Control Panel is a very economic way to humidify your house. The digital readout of the current humidity level is very convenient and helpful. Once the humidifier is set to the desired humidity level, the humidifier operates automatically. The only thing the owner of the humidifier needs to do is fill the humidifier with water when it gets low.
This is my second one. This model is sleet, quiet, and reliable. I'm not giving the model a 5 star due to the difficulty in filling the tank. It can easily slip out of your hands as you attempt to screw the cap on once it's filled with water and awkward to handle. That's why this is my second one of this model. I like it, but you can't buy just the tank as a replacement part. You'll have to buy the whole until all over again. Holmes - you're doing your customers an injustice by not carrying the replacement tank for purchase. Customer - if you purchase this model, be very careful when you refill the tank!
We heat our home with a wood burner and it makes for very dry conditions. Our Holm's humidifiers work well to eliminate this condition. They take up little space, are small and light weight, which makes for easy maintenance. I bought two of these units and are very happy with both of them
I bought this as a replacement for another humidifier of the same model that I've had for a couple of years. The original humidifier fan had gotten so noisy that I had to turn it off at night. Unfortunately, the new humidifier is not much quieter and louder than the original one was when I purchased it years ago. In addition, the new humidifier filter change meter only registered 3/4's when the new filters were installed and it's still at 3/4's after about a month of use. The filters are starting to turn brownish so it seems like the filter meter isn't working either. In short, it looks like I either got a defective humidifier or the quality of the product has gone down.
As stated buy another customer, the humidistat has a terrible design flaw. When the selected humidity level is reached, the unit will begin to rapidly cycle on and off in a matter of one or two second time spands. As it hunts for the desired on/off point, the fan motor goes crazy, sometimes turning off before it even has a chance to reach it's set speed. Sure, you could operate it in the always on manual mode but I don't want to do that! I paid for an automatic model.
To refill you need to tip over and the tall base does not fit under a standard sink, so it is awkward to refill using hand held sprayer. After a week it simply stopped working. No power and unable to get fixed. For the one week it was working it was limited (3 settings, need to press the power button to change settings) - not like my other Holmes that is for sure. Sorry to see the quality not here.
