I am always trying to find an air purifier that does NOT require purchasing expensive filters. I love the Ionic Pro, but they are quite costly. This unit is relatively quiet and you can wash the filter. I am very happy with it and when I need another, I will definitely purchase the Honeywell HD-120-Q Tower HEPAQuiet Air Filter.
This is the air cleaner for me! Here's why: 1. It's quiet. Very quiet. On high, I can actively hear it (about at a level of a fan on low). On low, it is whispering. 2. It oscillates so it circulates air well (great for a NorCal home with no central air system to move air and dust!). It also has a relatively broad oscilation range of about 90 degrees. 3. The lights on the top are bright enough to see, but dim enough not to significantly brigthen a sleeping room (unlike many BRIGHT BLUE indicator lights I see these days). 4. The tower design means it is taller than many air filters, has a small footprint, is visually appealing, and it blows from floor level to 3 ft up generating more significant circulation than models that suck in paralell to the ground and blow upward. We have four of them taking care of the air in our entire house and we are very pleased with them. We have not yet had to clean the filters, but the housing opens easily, removing and replacing the filter is simple enough, and the filter looks like it should stand up well to the recommended annual washing. The only caveat would be: though it is not immediately apparent in the product information, this unit is an IONIZER, so those who are sensitive to this air cleaning technology, should not use it. My household is not sensitive to ionizing, so we are breathing happy and dust free!
This purifier puts to shame one I had previously...the air quality difference is simply amazing..my space is closer to 400 sq ft and this unit handles it quite well... the only problem I have had is checking to make sure it is running as it is extremely quiet. For the 1st week when I passed by I either put my hand in air flow or or looked for lights.
I really like the purifier. It is quiet and efficient. Seems to be taking care of the problem of being asthmatic. The filters are washable which is really nice. I wanted to buy extra filters and am unable to find the white filters anywhere so far.
It is a very quiet unit. It seems to clear the air. The unit that I had before this one broke and so when I came into the house I could smell smoke. After this unit ran for a day, I could no longer smell smoke. Hopefully this unit will do the trick. It also seems to act like a fan.
This is the biggest air purifier I've owned. The other two are just little shoebox shaped things that sit on the floor. The height of this one makes me think it's getting and giving better circulation though, just so long as you have somewhere to put it that's not in the way. The machine is quiet enough that you won't have to turn your TV way up to hear over it, but if you don't have anything else going then you'll definitely know this is on. It's sort of white noise though, just a low hum, and easy to sleep through for me. I ran this for two weeks straight and when I opened it up and looked at the filter it still looked brand new. I don't have any pets, so I wasn't expecting it to be filthy, but I thought I might see some dust at least. I do think it's working though, as the room always feels fresh and clean. I also like the fan feature if you want to cool off or just get the air moving in a stuffy room.
Similar to other reviews, I agree that this product emitted a chemical smell. This was a gift for my mom who has allergy issues and being that the ionizer gives off a bad smell made it totally worthless. I opted for a different purifier that did not have the ionizer (though you have to replace filters every 3 months) and my mom has been happy within hours!
I bought two of these to replace one dead and one dying Sharper Image Ionic Breeze. This Honeywell is quiet on all speeds and moves a good bit of air. The oscillating feature is questionable. It makes the base, which is light plastic, quite wobbly. And to see the whole upper 99% of the unit sweeping back and forth is bizarre and suggests a real failure point where it pivots. But does it clean the air? I have no idea! After six weeks of use I don't see any dirt building up on the "hepa" filter of either unit. In that amount of time with the Ionic Breeze I would see plenty of dirt collected on its shiny metal plates (despite Consumer Reports saying the Ionic Breeze was useless). At least I knew it was doing something. I'm going to wait the three months the manufacturer recommends, then wash the filter and see if I get dirty water the shows if it has trapped anything. For now, I'm not impressed.
I hate to leave a bad review, but I purchased one of these purifiers a week ago and it has hardly filtered a thing. I have lots of dust/allergens I am trying to remove. My computer picks up more dust than this air purifier. My computer case is an Antec 900 with 4x120mm fans and a 200mm top exhaust fan and within a couple of weeks it has so much dust it needs to be sprayed out with air. I have been looking for a air purifier to reduce how often I have to clean out my PC so I decided to give this one a try. I let it run for a week, 24/7, and when I opened up the back to check the filter I found the filters barely had picked up anything. It is quiet, but I bought it to filter the air and thus far it has failed to do that. I don't mind a little noise if it will clean the air. For the price this thing sells, I expected much more than what I've seen. It wasn't the most expensive but it was far from the least also and yet it performed worse than I ever could have imagined. I am going to try another air purifier because this one was far from satisfying. I am not saying it is the brand because I don't have enough experience to judge by that. I just know this particular purifier doesn't filter very well. After running 24/7 for the past week and given the amount of dust in the air I expected a very clogged filter.
This unit did a wonderful job of cleaning the air but the ionizing process of the units operation produced a crackling noise like a static electricity discharge every few seconds, quite loud and quite annoying! This function is always on and can't be turned off when using the unit. I unplugged the unit and took the filters out and replaced them thinking that would solve the problem IT DID NOT ! I purchased a unit that does not use ionization processes to clean the air, just filtration. That's the beauty of Walmart.com so many great choices!
