Easy and tasty anywhere in the mountains or the lakes
My 14 year old son is a very picky eater and I was worried about him going on his first high adventure trip in Boy Scouts. We tried this and he absolutely loved the rice & chicken! He got through his 8 day trip and did not starve. The BSA camp even had this on hand for other scouts as well! Extremely tasty and filling.
Had this once. It was pretty good taste a lot like chicken fried rice, very mild, easy on the stomach, not spicy at all, also it was very filling. Good flavor. Good comfort food. would recommend highly if you have sensitive stomach, but want to go camping or get prepared for disasters and emergencies and such.
Easy to make, pour in boiling water and wait 5min, stir and let sit another 4min, then eat. Smells fantastic during the wait, ton of flavor and definitely filling. Excellent recipe, will buy again. My 7yr old loved it.
Mountain House beats Peak Refuel for taste and overall quality! They've been doing this longer and have it down to a science! I hope they continue to improve and I hope they continue to offer the Military MCW packaging, or at least continue to offer that form of packaging! I like it's simplicity and compactness! I really think they should do the MCW form of packaging with the oxygen absorber, vacuum seal and even tougher mylar (or whatever they use for the ProPak). This would be an unbeatable long term storage food in a form factor that would simply be unbeatable!!!
I frequently purchase Mountain House meals for myself and family. These are great for emergency kits as well as everyday for a quick snack. I like the flavor and that the meals do not contain MSG preservatives.
We bought this to try before adding it to our list of good things and it did not disappoint. Taste is good and is filling. We did, however, add some extra chicken to the meal as it was a bit scant. Otherwise another keeper!
I bought several defrent variaties and was pleased that many are gluten free. The chicken and rice is one of my favorites. Recent power outage gave me an excuse to dive in. I wasn't disappointed and as a matter of fact, I found myself making more even when the power came back on. I have celeac desease and knowing that many varieties are GF sold me. Very Delicious products indeed. Knowing I have this wonderful food supply is great for my morall nowing I don't have to sacrifice flavor and calories. To sum up the chicken and rice.... OUTSTANDING!
For a MRE it was good. I bought this one to see if I wanted to buy a sample kit and I will be buying their sample kit. Yes there is a fair bit of salt. This package is two servings.
I always like this one. It tastes great, is easy to make, and good calorie/protein stats. But I had only had it at home or on shorter hikes. But once I tried eating this on hikes of 10+ miles, I realized it's not going to work for me. It has so much sodium, that my feet were slightly swollen making hiking up and down steep terrain for miles on end much more difficult. The next day, I had gained 4lbs in water retention (and lost it all 2 days after that.) I'm going to opt for another brand with less sodium for these longer hikes.
