I bought this one and a bunch of others for emergency preparedness, hiking and camping. Very tasty and easy to prepare. I also tried the biscuits and gravy and it was awesome. Will buy again and again. Thank you!!
...we haven't opened it yet. It is in long-term storage. But we HAVE been sampling Mountain House foods we have purchased previously, including Chicken Teriyaki, Chicken with Rice, Chili Mac, and Scrambled Eggs with Ham & Bacon, and have found them to be delicious to the point of being superb. We are very impressed with the quality, flavor, and tastiness of the Mountain House foods we have tried so far.
When I rec'd the newsletter last month for the MH single serving sale I'm like "PERFECT for extra goto meals in my work truck!! I wasn't one bite disappointed at the taste of the sweet&sour pork. I usually read all the ingredient labels but I didn't with this meal. After boiling my water, mixing and sitting I took my first spoonful and was totally amazed because of the unexpected added pineapple chunks!!! WIN!! MDEaton Illinois
Not 3-star Michelin level one would get at a restaurant (come on, it's freeze dried food), but when you are out in the woods after a long hike, it sure *tastes* like 3-star Michelin food. After waiting ~15 minutes for it to rehydrate and heat up, the pork chunks were still chewy. After waiting an additional 5-minutes, I was pleasantly surprised to find the texture to be like lean pork - very tasty. I've seen the "Sweet and Sour Pork with Rice" rating to be a bit lower than the top rated "Lasagna", but I thoroughly enjoyed the "Sweet and Sour Pork" as a change of pace.
I bought these for long term storage and after tasting one I can't stop eating them. I take them camping all the time. This sweet and sour pork is excellent.I highly recommend this to everyone. Mountain house meals are the best I have found.
Having tried most all of the Mountain House entrees, this is my favorite. It really is sweet and sour and at least as good as our local Chinese restaurant. I almost exclusively use Mtn House for backpacking as it is tasty, light to carry, and easy to clean up after. If I had any complaint about the products it would be that they contain a little more sodium than I am used to, but then so does our local Chinese restaurant.
Great item lots of food to fill your belly with good warm food. I will order more of the Sweet & Sour Pork W/Rice. This is a great item to keep in stock in the RV.
Been sampling different freeze dried meals. Purchased to sample. I am not a big fan of sweet and sour anything. But I have purchased more to add variety to my hiking menu.
Not the best of the Mountain House meals. The sweet and sour pork lacked the good sweet and sour flavor. Rice was like the rice usually is. This all said, I still prefer Mountain House products to the other freeze dried products on the market.
I left for a 4 night trek... took Chicken Teriyaki, Beef Stew, Lasagna... and Sweet and Sour Pork. I prefer the Sweet and Sour Pork just slightly over the Chicken Teriyaki. My standards are Beef Stroganoff, Beef Stew, Chicken and Rice. I find with almost all the meals... the recommended water quantity is too much... I generally use less water.
