The product works great but if you buy one you need to do some training with it. Some reviews that say it didn't work sounded like they expected magic. Nothing works like that. I have 4 dogs I wanted to keep out of my foyer. When they first touched the matt they just jumped straight across into the Foyer. But with about five minutes of training they quickly learned not to cross the threshold. I simply stood on the foyer side and as they touched the matt I gave a strong “no” and blocked their path. They quickly jumped back into the main room, where they are supposed to be. Now they approach the foyer on their own, sniff the matt and walk away. Like Magic :)
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I got this pet mat about a month ago. Since this mat is supposed to keep animals from going into a certain area of your house and we have a big dog that loves to go into the spare bedroom, get into stuff back there and tear stuff up; I thought this mat was an awesome idea. This mat sends like electric pulses onto your pets paws whenever they walk on it, as long as they stand on it long enough for the mat to register that they are on it. Let me start by getting the cons out of the way. The first con is that it requires a nine volt battery, so this pet mat may not get much use before the battery dies from the mat being left on all of the time. Hopefully, this product trains your pet quickly enough that you won't need to replace too many batteries for it though. This isn't a big deal though. Another con is that because this is not very wide, my animals were able to just jump right over it so it wouldn't activate and work. However... I put plastic totes on the other side of the mat so they had no choice but to stand on it long enough to activate it. The big and final con to this product is this... it tells you in the instructions for this, what intensity level to put this on (ie.. low, medium or high) depending on what type or what size of animal you have. So, if you have a small cat or like teacup size dog, you would do low, medium size cat or dog would be medium, etc... It makes it hard to use this product when you have multiple cats and dogs of different sizes. The dog I have that is the destroyer of things is a larger dog, but I also have a medium size dog and a small cat. I did not want my small cat to get hurt by the high current, but there is no way to keep her away from this and the low current had absolutely no affect on my large trouble making dog. I have been unable to think of any way to solve this problem. On the positive side, after putting the plastic totes in the way so that my dog had no choice but to feel the pulses/currents/effects of this mat.... it did it's job and my dog no longer wanted to go that way. I should be able to move the totes now, but my other 2 animals still just jump right over the mat. I think for my circumstance, i just need a mat that's height is more like a welcome mat instead of being like the width and height of a table runner. Overall, this product works.
I have tried many different things to train my Furbabies, but to no avail. It was always a battle of wills with me losing. However, the Scatmat is Wonderful! It only takes one zap to reach them not to go to places I don't want them to. Now I don't have to turn. It on. They just avoid the area. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND this to anyone that have stubborn and determined cats.
We have a pup that got into the habit of counter surfing in out kitchen. We were continually telling him "off". Our floor plan made gating off the kitchen area inconvenient. A couple of these scat mats has kept him out of the kitchen. He stepped on them once and learned that going into see what he could steal off the countes was not a goid udea anymore. So, the scat mats have worked perfectly fir what we wanted to achieve, i.e. a dog free zone in our kitchen.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] This mat is quite effective, in a humane way, in keeping pets off the love seat. Cats only need to touch this once or twice and then they keep off. I am glad this gadget uses batteries rather than using electric since we have outages periodically.
This mat is a dream for changing our cats behavior of jumping on the table and counters. First night we could tell someone "touched" the mat because it was slide to the right on our kitchen table. In the morning I am usually chasing the cats off the table. Not that morning or any morning since then. We are not using on our breakfast bar. Thinking of which ScatMat to buy for our bathroom shelves. By the way we chose the D battery version and we have yet to replace the battery.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I immediately put this PetSafe Indoor training mat to good use. I put it across my couch and waited about 2 minutes until the dog jumped up there and he immediately backed down. He tried again after about 30 minutes and it was on the lowest setting but it still got him to back down. This is fantastic!! I also put it across the chair and ottoman and had the same results. It is a great length and really truly works
The ScatMat saved our bedroom door!! My cat would meow and scratch at the door in the early morning hours. I would yell at him, squirt him with water and/or shake a can of coins at him. Nothing worked. I was just reinforcing the behavior I wanted to extinguish. Only one time on the ScatMat was all it took! I couldn't be more satisfied with it and would highly recommend it.
Scat mat is great tool for keeping our dog out of the kitchen. Be aware that the battery pack is big and cannot be moved. This makes some placements of the mat unsafe in our walking path. Would be better if there were two options for where the battery pack connects.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I must say I'm not a real lover of shocking my Nala for getting up on the couch..but I think my daughter might like this for her dog.
