This is the smoothest, best shaving electric razor i've ever used and I have been an electric razor user for over 30 years. It's easy and fast to clean. I continuously get more than the listed 20 shaves from a single charge. Highly recommend.
For many years, I had tried to find an electric shaver that will give me as close a shave as a regular blade razor, but had been unsuccessful. When I shave, I like my face and head to be "as smooth as a baby's behind," as the saying goes. I just do not like the feel of razor stubble when I run my hand across my face or head. The last electric shaver I purchased a few years ago was a Panasonic ES8103 Wet/Dry that cost me about the same as I paid for this SensoTouch 3D. The Panasonic did not give me the comfortable, close shave that I was looking for. In fact, the Panasonic was really rough on my skin. I suffered quite a while with razor-burn just trying to get the close shave promised by the manufacturer. When you wear a tie for your job, having razor-burn on your neck is extremely unpleasant. I had been eyeing the Philips Norelco SensoTouch 3D for a couple of years now, but really did not want to spend that much money and be disappointed yet again. I found the SensoTouch 3D on sale on Walmart.com just after Thanksgiving and decided that the price was low enough to give it a try. I made up my mind that if I was disappointed in the product, I was going to return it and quit trying to find a good electric shaver. I finally received my new SensoTouch 3D shaver about 10 days or so after ordering it. I used it the following morning to shave my face and head. I was very pleasantly surprised that I did not suffer razor-burn like I had in the past with other electric shavers. The shave was very comfortable, and much closer than I had expected. I do not feel that I am getting as close a shave as a regular blade razor, but it is still quite a bit closer than other electric razors have given me, and I am still in the "getting used to it" period. Even though I am very impressed with the results I have gotten so far, I am going to give this shaver a good 21-day trial to allow my skin to become accustomed to it, just as the manufacturer recommends. But I can say this, "Excellent job, Philips Norelco!"
I've had many Phillips/Norelco Shavers (still do, for that matter) but this one outshines them all. Smooth, fast shaves, easy cleaning, comfortable. Simply the best!
This is the second rotary head Norelco shaver I have owned/used and by far the best. I use Williams Lectric Shave, electric razor pre-shave and the Norelco, literally, glides over my skin. Extremely close shave. No irritation. Feels great in my hand. It didn't come with "Cleaning Kit" but I just run hot water over the shaving heads with the razor on and it self cleans. I would, and already have, recommended this razor to my friends and family. I'm a Senior Citizen and have learned over the years that you only get what you pay for, so the $200. cost seemed a little high when I was searching for a replacement razor but decided to to give myself an early Christmas present and am happy with my new toy.
Not as comfortable to hold as my old Norelco, but cuts closer. 3 minutes to shave with is about average for me with this one. Your time may vary. Be sure to look under the container in one of the boxes for the plastic shaver cover. All else was well packed. Charge time is about 1:1, e.g. 3 minutes to take it from 57 to a full 60 minute charge.
I change to an electric razor 25 years ago. With a regular razor always had razor burn/rash. No electric razor has given me as close of a shave as the regular razor, but gave up the close shave to give up the pain of razor burn/rash. This shaver is amazing. I get as close of a shave as a regular razor without the pain of razor burn/rash. Would highly recommend.
This new model of Norelco far exceeds any shave that I have ever experienced (I am 55 yrs old). I have been known to have sensitive skin and even shave dry with this shaver w/o any issues. No pressure needed and just glides along for a very nice and quick shave. Thank you Norelco!
I'm a fan of close shaves and have always bought multy blades razors which are super expensive and don't really last more than three shaves, no to mention the irritation after the shave!! Then I bought the sensotouch 3D 1290 and this product gives me the best shave I've ever had!! Even better than those Gillette 5 blade ultra glide razors!! Great product!! Already have people asking me where to get it!! Will recommend 100%
This is my 3rd Philips razor and the best in terms of a close shave. It's also very quiet. The battery seems to last me about 10 - 12 days on a full charge. Had it lasted as long as my previous razor, I'd have given this a 5 star rating. The spectra 8894 XL typically lasted 24 days - which meant I could save space and leave the cord at home - even on 3 week vacations. If you are traveling longer than a week with the 1290X/40 - you'll need to pack the cord and stand. 2 issues here: 1. You can't plug the cord directly into the razor - you have to use the stand. 2. You can't fit the cord and stand into the travel case, so will need to pack elsewhere Overall though - very happy with this purchase - best electric shave thus far.
After many years of using foam & razor, I was really looking forward to the convenience of moving to an electric. I wanted the best shave possible, so I went with the best one (1290X) from the best company (Norelco). I was expecting the temporary rash until the skin becomes conditioned and the loss of closeness, so I was not surprised by these items. However, after a couple of weeks, my skin did become conditioned just as Philips had predicted provided I don't put too much pressure of the shaver on the skin. But the loss of closeness is much worse than expected. It is not a close shave at all. Right after shaving, my three year old granddaughter often asks, "Why didn't you shave today, grandpa?" I'm also disappointed in the amount of 'work' and time required. I thought just a pass or two over the area would do, but you have to move it in circular patterns over the entire area about 12-15 times to get even a somewhat acceptable closeness. When using wet or with foam, the shaver seems to glide across the skin more smoothly than on bare skin, but it doesn't seem to result in any better quality of shave and makes the shaver clean-up more difficult and messy. Lastly, Norelco has done much more research in electric shaving using rotary type cutting than I, but at least for my use, I think the foil type back-and-forth type razor might be more to my liking and plan to try one of those before giving up on electric shaving altogether. In summary, I am very disappointed in the overall shave provided by this shaver.
